Below is the way that we do the challenges, feel free to modify as desired. I will also email you the Word doc. Thank you and good luck!
Multiplication Relay:
Create a sheet of 15-20 multiplication problems on it that your students should know. Have each tribe sit in a row, one behind another. The first person solves the problem and then passes it to the person behind them. That person checks the first problem- if it is right they do a problem of their own, if it is wrong, they pass the paper back up to the first person to have it corrected. This continues. Each person in line is responsible for checking the previously done problems. If one is found to be incorrect, the paper is passed up the line to be fixed. If everything is correct they do a problem and continue to pass it back. The first team to correctly complete their page and return it to the front of their line will be the winner.
Water Balloon Toss:
Students partner up with someone in their tribe. All start facing one another. If they catch the water balloon they take one step backward. If they do not catch it they are out. Final partnership standing is the winning tribe. If uneven number of students in tribe, they can stand in a threesome circle and take steps backwards that way tossing it to each team member.
Egg Relay:
We use raw eggs and a plastic spoon and do this activity in the grass. Determine start and end mark. Have two tribes line up one behind the other. Student holds plastic spoon with egg on it and walks/jogs to the finish line and then walks/jogs back and hands it off to the next person in line. The tribe that finishes first is the winner. Winning tribes pair up against one another to determine a class winner.
Airplane Contest:
We usually do this in the hallway. Start at one place and then put tape down where the plane lands. Farthest flying plane wins.
Sponge Relay:
Students line up with their tribe. Place a bucket or pitcher at the start and finish line. The bucket/pitcher at the start line has water in it. Give the person at the front of the line a sponge. They dip the sponge and then run it to the bucket/pitcher at the finish line and squeeze the water in. Pass to the next player and repeat until finish line bucket/pitcher is full. Have extra water on hand to refill start line buckets!

Hi I was hoping you could help with with your survivor game. I'm not sure if I missed something, but I have a few questions about how the game works. Is it one activity a day? When and how do the challenge activities fit in? How are the awards decided? Your directions say allow groups to work for 4-5 hours each day, but I don't think that one activity will last anywhere near that long. I'm sorry that I'm so confused. I'm sure I probably missed something. Nevertheless, if you have a moment I would appreciate some help. Thank you.

I appologize in not answering your question sooner....it did not pop up in my email as a question and I did not know I had one waiting. Tribes work at their own pace, so for example we started today and I have some groups that have completed 1 activity and some that are done with 2. As soon as they are done with an activity, I move them to the next activity. I have the challenges scheduled throughout the week and on the "Bonus Activities" sheet I announce at the beginning of the week when each challenge is. I decide the awards based on what team is working together best and getting along for "Best Sportsmanship," "Survivor Team Winner" is for most activities completed/torches lit, "1st Runner Up" is the team with the 2nd most torches lit/activities completed, "Best Flag" is based on neatness, attractiveness, and good, correct facts, "Best Problem Solving" is teams that do not use help tickets for directions and work together to solve their tribes problems, and finally "Most Challenges Won" is for those extra bonus activity winners. I hope that this information helps and if you have any other questions, please let me know. Again, I appolozie for not getting back to you sooner. :)

Were you using a Mac? I had 2 other people have the same problem when they downloaded it on a Mac, but when they downloaded it on a PC, it worked fine. If you were not using a Mac, let me know and we can figure out another solution.

Thanks for your quick response. I am using a mac and after I first contacted you, I tried again and this time used Adobe reader instead of the program the computer was set to default (Preview). It opened fine in Adobe! I can't wait to use the unit! Thanks again for getting back to me!

Hello! Are you using a mac? Another user emailed me with a similar situation and was using a mac so that is why there was an issue- when she opened it on a PC, the situation was resolved.
