I began my career in early childhood, with a year teaching pre-K and 2 years in first grade. When we moved, I took a job in a second-chance school for young children with severe behavioral issues. I stayed there for 3 years, teaching in multi-aged classrooms. 2 years ago I moved to a public school, where I am the gifted support coordinator for an elementary school k-5. Currently, I am on leave to spend the year at home with my two young children.
I am a very structured teacher (probably from those years in emotional support!) I fully embrace differentiated instruction, as I firmly believe it is the only viable answer to the diverse needs of students within our classrooms.
I recently did professional development for a local school district (not my own.) I was honored to be asked to speak about differentiated instruction. But it was particularly rewarding to hear teachers' positive comments about the presentation.
