I know someone has already asked this, but do you think you'll be creating the journals for 7 and 8??? I realize I could probably come up with something on my own, but I like the style of yours. So, just checking. I know your mind is not on Kindergarten now...

Awww... Sarah, I'm so sorry! I just don't have the time now. I really wish I could for you. I don't have access to the curriculum for K anymore either.

I have just started using your kindergarten EDM journals and love them! Do you have any plans in the future to create journals for unit seven and eight? Even though I'm only on journal one, I am already terrified of not having your journals when I get to unit seven! I've taught for five years and this is truly one of the best things I've done with my students!

Maria,

I am humbled by your comments! Sorry it has taken so long for me to reply. I have been busy... Teaching FIRST GRADE! Can you believe it?? Anyway, since the move, I haven't had time to do ANYTHING not contributing to my first grade classroom and I don't anticipate doing Chapter 7 and 8 (I am sooooo sorry!!!). I'm sure you've realized by now that it is near impossible to do the journal every day. I used it more for review over the last chapters. I'd encourage you to make your own. It was fairly easy to come up with the activities, but getting the time to put them down to paper was the hard part. Good luck!!

If you get toward the end of chapter 6 and realize you are going to DIE without chapter 7, I could see if I could possibly have time to do more.

Thanks, Amber

Yes, I will be. They will be ready for sure sometime after Christmas. I'm hoping nobody teaches fast enough to need them before then. Thanks for checking.

Hi Amber,

Which version of Everyday Math do your journals correspond with?

I think the 2007 version. We started the series in 08 and it was the newer version at that time. Great question!

Just checking to see when you will have Chapter 5 ready. I really liked using chapters 1-4. Our school stopped ordering the workbook through EDM and these are perfect (if not better) for reinforcing the activities.

No, I don't. Perhaps that's the next step! I have to do more research first. Maybe I can do one over summer vacation.

Hello Amber will you consider creating an Everyday Mathematics Kindergarten benchmark & final assessment? The program does not come with a paper/pencil task - it's one of those where you have to gather all the materials to do an assessment. Would love to see you do one!

I don't use a paper pencil assessment and I'm not sure it would be appropriate for this age level. I do a checklist of activities that assess the benchmarks as outlined in the math masters manual. I do gather the supplies, like you said, and assess 1:1 for each task. I try to do a little here and a little there to make it not seem so lengthy.

Chapter 3 I can guarantee for two Mondays from now. Chapter 4 is still in the works. I won't be there with my class until at least December. I'll have it done before Halloween. I hope that's soon enough!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am currently teaching first grade and I love it! I taught kindergarten for four years. I cherish the vitality and the energy that the children bring to the classroom. I love to harvest new ideas and share my own ideas. I have taught kindergarten, Developmentally and Cognitively Delayed Special Education, second grade, Early Childhood Family Education, and most recently, first grade.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I teach in a center-based classroom. I typically have 4 groups of similar abilities (as defined by our district) and keep the lower groups in a smaller size. I also teach in a whole group environment for part of the day.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

It is an honor to have you looking at my stuff! In the meantime, I'm focused on my classroom and my family. When I have time for earning awards, I'll post them!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I earned my Elementary Education degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2003.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My husband and I live in New Ulm, Minnesota raising our three boys and a dog. Did you know New Ulm has the highest concentration of people who consider themselves German American in the United States? I enjoy history and weird facts. I'm a Facebook and blog-following addict.
