Elena G. re: Lesson plan. Honoring Henri Matisse: A Study of "Icarus"
I know I'm showing my ignorance - but - what is a CK teacher?
January 17, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
Amy Hauptman / Sally Hofmockel
You are smart to ask! Our plans were developed while we taught in a Friends of (Hirsch) Core Knowledge elementary school. CK refers to this curriculum.
The CK Foundation has authored classroom teacher handbooks for each grade level. These books include background information about specific masterpieces studied within the curriculum, and are referenced in our plans.
Equally thorough background information can be found on-line or in art history books, and chosen by individual teachers according to their own instructional objectives. Thank you! Amy

Cheryl Suitor  (TpT Seller) re: Matisse, Henri. Icarus. Coloring page and lesson plan ideas
Dear Amy and Sally,
Did you need to obtain copyright permission to illustrate works of art and sell them as black line masters? I am new to TpT and want to share my lesson plans but am unaware of the laws regarding copyright and famous works of art. I have read the information posted on TpT but it mostly deals with clip art and not fine art prints. Do I need to obtain special permission to include color prints of famous works of art in my products?
Thank you,
Cheryl Suitor

Hi Cheryl,
Our line drawings are simple original interpretations of the masters and are copyrighted by us. We can't say what your color prints would be classified as. You might want to research public domain and free use guidelines (which you can find online.)

Again, thank you so much for your prompt answer and for being so helpful. That will work well to point people here for web downloads, and I'll buy a bunch of licenses for the snail mail copies. Thanks again for a great product!

Thank you for getting back to me quickly. I'm not sure I understand your answer, and I also wanted to make sure I clarify with you about whether it's OK to have it available on the web for the months of December and January (December for planning purposes for teachers, and then in January for them to find it and use it if they don't plan ahead!). I'll purchase several licenses to cover whatever you feel is fair for me to pay for this. Thank you again for your help, and for your flexibility regarding our needs for this particular curriculum. I really like the coloring page, by the way! As a Quaker, it's nice to see one of our denomination's works of art available in such a way, and it will be a great educational tool for our kids.

I prefer not to have our products posted on any other web site for free download. Because each posting is intended for individual classroom use, it would be most ethical to reference our product within your plan and allow interested teachers to download a copy for their own classroom use if desired. Or, if you can be sure that the product will be be shared by only the 60 teachers affiliated with your program, by "snail-mailing" each church a copy, a 10 cent per share license fee is still appreciated for your purposes - the equivalent of only four license fees at the rate suggested by TPT.
Our store can be accessed at http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Amy-Hauptman-Sally-Hofmockel.
Thank you again for your honesty and thoughtfulness, and I hope one of these options works for you. Amy

Cherice Bock  (TpT Seller) re: Hicks. The Peaceable Kingdom. Coloring page and lesson plan ideas
Greetings,

I'm writing a peace curriculum called Peace Month that will be used by Friends churches in the Northwest in the month of January and I'd love to use your Peaceable Kingdom coloring page. I don't need the lesson plan. There are about 60 churches, and the information is generally available on the web, too. What would you charge for such an arrangement? One option could be that I print the coloring page and send it to all the churches but it's not available on the web. (www.nwfriends.org/peacemonth)

Thank you very much for your help!

Thank you for your honesty and inquiry. I am so glad that you have found this product valuable in your curriculum.
TPT suggests charging 1/2 of the purchase price for each distribution anticipated by the buyer.
I realize that this would be very costly.
For your purposes, 10 cents per distribution would be good with me.
I don't want to violate any policies followed by TPT that protect all sellers on the site, but think this is OK and am honored that you would ask!

I have tried to access your website on cafepress.com or at artlinesk-5.com, but can't find either. Are your sites still active?

Michelle Eurich  (TpT Seller) re: Lesson plan. Creating a Codex: A Study of Ancient Mayan Writing
Is there a typo for the web site mentioned in description of Mayan codex lesson plan...www.cafepress.com? I went to site and a tshirt, gift, site popped up. I have been searching for Mayan zodiac signs similar to what my Spanish teacher used in my class many years ago for a coloring activity/cultural discussion. Do you have any of these symbols included in this lesson or others...or on website?
