I taught Kindergarten for 22 years in Missouri in a progressive school district. In 2011, my family relocated to Southwest Florida where I accepted a First Grade teaching position. This year, I accepted a position as our school's Reading Coach. I have been working with Kindergarten through 5th grade students, teachers and staff to implement Reader's Workshop with Comprehensive Strategy Instruction as well as Writer's Workshop units of study and the process of writing. My passion has always been teaching reading and I am inspired by the drive and dedication of all teachers to "put a book" in their student's hands.
I believe that all children can learn, and it is my responsibility to find their learning style. I am constantly singing to my students, most of the time very off-key,but they don't seem to mind. I feel that I am very patient, kind and know that my students feel very safe in my classroom. I am a contemporary educator who believes in introducing new teaching concepts and ideas in my classroom, and sharing those ideas with my peers.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Sam, for 22 happy years. We have 3 beautiful daughters, who are the light of my life, Emily, Katey and Natalie. I love to spend time with my family and my friends and I enjoy reading books. I spend as much of my free time on the Gulf beaches soaking up the sun rays and hunting for those rarest of rare shells. I miss my family and friends in Missouri and Iowa and love it when I can visit with them.
