Many items that I have created are for sale, but not all. Moat labs come from Wards Nat. Science, and some resources I have used from other sources.

Hooligan re: Anatomy and Physiology Semester One POGIL lessons
Hi Andrea,

I just bought your Pogil lesson plans for the 1st semester. How exactly do you use them? I realize that you say you use them as an introduction to your chapters but how do you implement them? Do they do them all at one time? Do they spend a class period working them independently by researching in their books? Do you assign different groups different modules? Suggestions would be great! Thanks!

P.S. could you please post or send me the answer key to the Macromolecule lesson? Thanks!

Hello! POGIL stands for Process Oriented Group Inquiry Learning. It is a fast sweeping research backed way for science teachers to teach that helps students really retain the information. Basically, before you start your unit, you want to group your students into 4's. It is helpful to assign each student a roll in the group (I use: Facilitator/Reader, Quality Control-is each person writing the same responses, Spokesperson- ask the teacher a question/represent the group when answering, and Process Analyst- reports on how well the group worked with time management, focus). I give them a certain amount of time to reach the first stop sign, then float around the room monitoring. When majority or all groups have reached the first stop sign, I call on spokesperson's at random to share the responses/discussion.
This has been shown to really help students learn and figure things out before they dig into the material. This way, when you ask them to read from their text, or teach, they can build a bridge from what they learned together in POGIL to what they are supposed to be learning. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. There is a good youtube video on "POGIL in the classroom" if you want to see how teachers are using these in action. Hope this helps! We have had great success in our school since we have started using them. - Andrea

What materials are needed to do this?

Andrea Taktak  (TpT Seller)
You would need an area marked off every 10 meters for students to run (I take my students out to our high school track), 4 stopwatches and 4 students posted every 10 meters to record time for the distance traveled for 10, 20, 30, and 40 yards. You may need a meter stick to help you mark of 10 meters. Does this help? You then have each student run (or 1 per group) as fast as they can and the timers will all start the stopwatches when you yell "GO" and stop them when they cross each 10 meters. They can then calculate their velocity and accelerations using the distances and times. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!
Andrea

I give them 4 hours broken up over a few days due to our exam schedule. I usually stage the scene in the teachers lounge and mark off with crime scene tape. First I have them sketch the scene and work on fingerprints. Then over the next few day i interduce other evidence such as blood typing, hair, etc.

Was wondering if you had other materials that accompany the Forensic Hair Analysis Quiz and Review? Is it embedded in a PPT?

No, what I use to teach the content is the DUKE FORENSIC SCIENCE CD-ROM that you can order from WARDS NAT. SCI company. There is a series of lectures given on forensic topics with demos, and we view it as a class and take notes. The other resource that I use is the newer Forensic Science Textbook, and we do some Hair Analysis Labs that I also order from Wards. Oh, and I also have them read the case studies from Larry Ragels book called "Crime Scene." There are a few discussion questions on that quiz from the reading in his book on Hair.
I hope this helps, these resources have been really helpful to me in teaching this course.

Sorry so long to get back to you, we are in exam week...anyway, the book was the 2001 ed. of Holt's Science Spectrum. This text went along with the course called "geophysical science" for our 9th graders. Thank you.
