Hi there - I just downloaded an amended version that has the correct answer to the question on the word search - eleven. Thank you for your inquiry - I read it aloud to a rather fidgety group and they loved it.

If you have problems downloading it again, I'll send it to you in a Word document by email.

Can I ask a question about the rhyming scheme for Sonnet 30 - why do the lines "foregone" and "moan" both contain an "e" designation if the end words and lines of the Sonnet do not rhyme.
November 2, 2012 Report inappropriate comment

Arlene Manemann  (TpT Seller)
Good question. The answer is simple - it's a Shakespearean sonnet, and by definition is two quatrains followed by a sextet. Each of the quatrains have alternating lines rhyming (in this case, including "past" and "waste" which really don't rhyme either) and the sextet has two sets of alternating rhyming lines and a couplet.

There is a phrase "poetic license" which explains a lot of what poets do that stretches the term 'rhyme' and sometimes 'meter'. It's used in reference to techniques in prose too occasionally.

Yes - picture me red-faced! I redid the file and either did not proofread or did it carelessly. It doesn't pay to proofread ones own work as self-fulfilling prophecy kicks in - and smugness. Darn - I am usually so accurate.

The new file should be correct - but I did proofread it myself - again. My fingers are crossed.

Hi Arlene,
You need to check your 'century review'' lesson - the 3rd century starts with 201 not 301. Likewise the 15th century starts with 1401 not 1501

I am so embarrassed. I redid a powerpoint, changing it into a word document making some year changes as well, and was careless when I rewrote it and obviously did NOT proofread. Yes, the 3rd C. starts with 201. Please redownload as I've corrected the file.

Speaking/Listening will be on the file by late August or September.

As for any others - no plans as of yet.

If you've purchased the file already you will be able to download the remaining ones free.

Hi Arlene,

It's rare that I email, but I'm new to TpT and I'm having a hard time selling products. Since you're a high school teacher could you look at my store and see what you think? It is geared toward ELL (ESOL,ESL)but can also be used with lower-level reading students. I just think it's so important to get this classic into the hands of all students no matter what their reading level is. If you know anyone who teaches ELL can you pass this on? Also I too am sorry to hear about your husband. I just found out before Christmas that my sister has breast cancer. My mother is a breast cancer survivor.

Thanks for your feedback. I reviewed the file and considering the time it took to create it, I believe the price is appropriate. However, thanks to your note, I see I left off the page on using quotes in a story. I will take care of that!

Later - done. I added two board note pages too for teachers to use with smart/prom or white boards. This is important as the unit includes a creative writing assignment and will need dialogue.

Here are a couple of suggestions regarding clarity. Always make a title page so you have an eye catching thumbnail to attract buyers. Also, make the second page a page of directions or suggestions on how to use your product. List a couple of ways you use it in your classroom. Never assume a buyer knows how, why, or when to use an item you are selling. I've learned this the hard way, and have gone back to do the same thing to many of my products.

Hi Arlene
I had a wonderful professor in college who told us that learnt was a Queen's English regular verb, but who knows? Maybe he was wrong. Whatever the case, maybe it will inspire those who download it to do a bit of research. I love teaching English. Are you a high school teacher?

I was. And then with declining enrollment I moved to a middle school. When an opening came up to return to the high school I declined. I loved the kids, the parents, and the school. Doesn't get much better.

It's just fun talking about it with someone who actually knows grammar. So many of the newer teachers don't seem to have a strong background in it.

Arlene! No no! LOL.. It's a free product! I WISH I had sold that many! :) My other free product that I posted a month ago has been downloaded 4499 times. I was stunned!

On another note.... I like not having to deal with PayPal. It's nice getting a paper check in the mail. :) I sold 30 products today! It's all due to the networking we do in the Seller's Forum here on TpT, blogging and Facebook. My sales have increased dramatically.
I'm going to change my primary free product to something else. I can't stand looking at that chart! I was using Word when I began selling here. Now I use Mac software called PAGES.. It gives me the opportunity to be more creative when designing my products.
Have a great Tuesday!

I'm pursuing this topic only because I love grammar. Got the email back from England. She said her memory of grammar - which she spelled differently, BTW, was rather weak but she seemed to recall that learnt was an irregular verb forme. But she's almost as old as I am so who knows?

Arlene,

Learnt - British (Queen's) English. Not commonly used in American English
Mostly found in unabridged dictionaries or some abridged versions have it.
Some authors use it in dialogue when their characters are American. Drives me crazy!
When I give that example, I also explain spelling differences in other British and American words like "color", colour", etc.

Regarding irregular verbs: Your teacher ideas are good, but you do not mention in the teacher instruction suggestion that regular verbs have an added -d or -ed (when is it ever -t?) but then refer to it on the worksheet.

Hi Arlene! I just downloaded your Christmas and New Year Puzzles and love them. I'd suggest that you put your TpT store URL on every page at the bottom (tiny font) and on the last page of your product. That way, if people have passed your product to other friends, they'll see it and might click on your store website. When I first started selling here, I didn't know to do that so some of my earliest products don't have my store website on every page.I'm not going to go back and fix all of them, but now I do that and my store sales have really increased and I have a lot more followers :)
