Hi! I'm sorry I didn't get this answered sooner- I did it on my phone and it must not have worked. This is not aligned with CCSS, YET, but I am working on it. Please check back in a couple of weeks and I should have it updated. I will be making a page that shows which pages have the specific standard covered with a checklist. Thanks!

FYI The study guide has been published on the web at hobart.schoolwires.com. According to a parent of one of my children, the answer key is out there somewhere too.

This activity seems to very helpful. My question is: Should you have the numbers in the 'leaf' in order - ascending or decending? Also, when I made an attempt to print all I am getting is black lines and dots. There is nothing wrong with my computer because I have printed several times from this and other sites.
Thanks for a feedback.

Yes, all numbers should be in decending order in the leaf side(Going down 1-10). Maybe try re-downloading the file and see if it works? I re-uploaded the file, so it should work. If it still doesn't work, send me your email and I will email the file to you. Thanks!

Hi!

Did your Esperanza Rising unit come with an answer key? That would have been helpful for some of your items, especially the chapter of the Guayabas where students were to sequence items.

Thanks

Right now I have 10 pages, and they are all just like the page in the example, but with different numbers/problems. I am working on more in my spare time (haha), but we have been in the process of moving to another state/selling a home/buying a home/living with in-laws so I have not really had much time to work on these. I am also putting together a fractions one, which is mostly finished, I just want more pages. If there is something specific you would like, please let me know and I can create it or customize something for you.

How do you keep the offices from getting torn up? I teach 6th graders, and they travel to 6 other teachers throughout the day. I'd like them to be able to keep their offices with them for reference while at home, but I am not sure how to keep them from getting torn up.

I would laminate them once the kids got all the stuff put on them. My students really liked cutting out their own, so I didn't have to do a lot of the work. :)

Hi Ashley,
I love your mini offices - thank you for your creativity! I purchased your math office this afternoon and I wondered if I could purchase a sheet with metric measurements, as I live in Canada?
Thanks for your consideration at this very busy time of year.

Hi, I see you teach in Columbia, MO and use Whole Brain Teaching. I am actually in the St. Louis area and will be implementing Whole Brain Teaching this year. I used it last year - mid-year and it was a little rough to transition the students. I was wondering if you had any tips or tricks that you found work for you? I have watched several youtube videos and excited to start it. Any help would be great.

Thanks

I would first of all go to the whole brain website and sign up! On the website is the first steps and I would go there. On the first day of school I am just about the craziest, zaniest thing you have seen- making them do class-yes and teach-okay all day long but in the craziest ways possible. I also set up the scoreboard first thing and they lose on the first day, but just by one point (oh, so close!) Their homework is to write why it is important to follow the 5 class rules to be a learner in our room. I would say the biggest thing is to do the rules EVERYDAY a couple of times. They will get sick of it, so then change it up in different voices, have a student leader, have everyone say them backwards- inconsistant consistancy. Do the same thing, but in crazy ways. Starting it half way would be hard. You need the majority of the kids to buy-in. Check out the website- wholebrainteaching.com. It has great things!

Hey! I bought your packet, but I am having trouble figuring out what all the different fruits and vegetables symbolize. Hi Ashley,
I teach 4th grade and LOVE the mini office!! It is a fabulous item and I've converted it to a writing folder which I'll be happy to share with you. Looking over the the multiplication (expanded) today, I noticed a math error. The correct answer is 30,015. The first addition problem is 26,100 - not 25,900. Is it possible for you to correct that page and repost? Thanks! Jen

Hello Ashley,
I love your mini-office math lapbook. Thank you for sharing it. I have a question about the pdf though - did something go awry on the 3rd page with the blue box multiplying whole numbers in the black smear area? The same smear is on the 5th page with the standard/expanded/word form. And on the 5th page, should there be something under each heading or do you have your students fill that in?

Thank you for your time.
Ms. B.

I use these as mini-offices- and cut out all of the resources and put them on folders. I have never thought of making a booklet! I teach 5th grade, so don't really do any addition/subtraction rules, but I am in the process of making a division mini-office which I will post this summer. I have a whole list of things I am making this summer! Check back in September.

OK, so these are meant to stand up right? Like dividers??
May 3, 2010 Report inappropriate comment

I glue them onto file-folders and then they can stand upright or students can just use them on the table top/lap. It is nice to laminate them after they are all put together-they stand up better after that. I ALWAYS have students cut-out and glue items on the folders so they have a sense of ownership, then laminate them. Then students can put them up as dividers when working- I just love them. I am almost done with the communication arts ones also! It's on my summer project list.
