Not a question: just letting you know you misspelled choose in the free preview of Esperanza Rising 4th grade lesson plan. Page 4.

I'm just a parent. I bought this + 3 licenses so all of 4th grade at my children's school can use this. I'm so glad there are some resources that are Common Core aligned! Our public school doesn't qualify for grants so I help out as much as possible. Thanks for making it affordable.

There is not, as I find that there are so many possible answers on a lot of the questions. When I use it in a workstation, I spend a lot of time answering if their answers are okay, so my rule is, if everyone in the group agrees, then it's okay. I always check them, so the kids know they are held accountable for okaying others work.

Strange question for you :)
I have a copy of a place value sheet from you but not sure what file it's from---there are 2 numbers and students are to do a variety of activities (round, tell place value of a particular number, multiply by 10, 100, and 100, round, write in expanded form. Could you tell me which of your products this is--I'm wondering if this was a freebie I found of yours but would love more to help my kiddos that are almost there with this concept :)
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Ashley,

Thank you for this. If possible, can you make some alterations? On Fact vs. Opinion (Los Melones), the twins names are incorrect.
Also, from the same chapter, if you could specify with question one that it is referring to the border stop. My students were confusing the train stops for questions 1 and 3. In Los Guayabas, question 5 does not specify whether it is referring to her present train car or the one in the past she rode one with Miguel and her Papa.
Again, a fabulous job on this. Great resource.

Buyer re: 5th Grade Math: Numbers and Operations in Base Ten Common Core Daily Practice
Hi Ashley, I have been looking specifically for an NBT practice. I am so happy to see yours! I did not see double digit multiplication (5NBT5) or long division (5NBT6) on your daily 5th grade sample for NBT. I was wondering if they appear later on in the practice? Also, is there an opportunity for students to show their work by Illustrating and explaining the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
(This is how the standard for 5nbt6 reads) Find whole-number quotients of whole numbers with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

I'm so, so sorry I didn't get back to you sooner! I answered using my phone and sometimes it doesn't take for whatever reason. I just answered another question tonight and saw this was unanswered! I apologize!!
This practice is more of a basic review that is cyclical, students do the same thing everyday, using different numbers. It starts with whole numbers and decimals, then the later sheets focus only on decimals. It is mostly place value work, multiplying/dividing by multiples of ten, then later adding and subtracting decimals. There isn't any multiplication or division other than with multiples of ten. These are skills that I felt my students constantly needed to work on, these basic skills that don't necessarily get enough time at the beginning of the year, but provide a foundation for everything else they work on throughout the year. I have been debating making one that is multiplication and division based. But think I may wait until this summer, as am pregnant with number two and have a two year old at home that keeps me quite busy in my spare time. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

It says 17 pages. Does everything fit glued onto one file folder or are multiple folders necessary? Also, if I purchase, can I possibly get it in a word document to make it fit on file folder by tweaking the size of the references? Looks exactly like what I am looking for!
September 12, 2013 Report inappropriate comment

Ashley Koss  (TpT Seller)
I made this so there are multiples of the same references on each page, depending on the size, to save on printing. You might be able to fit them all on one file folder, using all sides. I wouldn't recommend using the word file, as I use a lot of different fonts and formatting. If you purchase the file, I will send you the word version if you want it, but I fear it would be a nightmare trying to keep the fonts and some of the formatting I used. Sometimes I used tables, sometimes text boxes, and others just paragraph blocking. Let me know if you have any other questions or would like me to send you the word file. Thanks!!

Hey, I bought your 5th grade ELA language/Reading Foundations Double Pack. I have a question about the basic skills practice on #1. You ask for the verb, then they are suppose to rewrite the sentences using a conjunction. Are the students suppose to find the subjects and predicate for both sentences? That was confusing!! Can you please explain what they are suppose to do! Thanks,
June 19, 2013 Report inappropriate comment

Ashley Koss  (TpT Seller)
I'm sorry that was confusing for you! What I usually do is have the students write the subject and predicate for the new sentence they write, but you can have them do however you feel it would be most beneficial for your students. That's one of the reasons I don't have an answer key for this product. I don't want teachers to get locked in to thinking there is just one answer or one way to use this. Please let me know of you have any other questions! Thanks!

No, there isn't an answer key for this. I have been debating making one. I always correct these with my groups, because there are so many parts that have multiple answers, or the kids can look at in different ways. I may make an answer key for the parts that have only one answer, but it would be awhile. I have other projects going that I want to finish before working on answer keys.

Thanks for a feedback.

I would first of all go to the whole brain website and sign up! On the website is the first steps and I would go there. On the first day of school I am just about the craziest, zaniest thing you have seen- making them do class-yes and teach-okay all day long but in the craziest ways possible. I also set up the scoreboard first thing and they lose on the first day, but just by one point (oh, so close!) Their homework is to write why it is important to follow the 5 class rules to be a learner in our room. I would say the biggest thing is to do the rules EVERYDAY a couple of times. They will get sick of it, so then change it up in different voices, have a student leader, have everyone say them backwards- inconsistant consistancy. Do the same thing, but in crazy ways. Starting it half way would be hard. You need the majority of the kids to buy-in. Check out the website- wholebrainteaching.com. It has great things!

I have a question about the pdf though - did something go awry on the 3rd page with the blue box multiplying whole numbers in the black smear area? The same smear is on the 5th page with the standard/expanded/word form. And on the 5th page, should there be something under each heading or do you have your students fill that in?

Thank you for your time.

I checked my hard copy and downloaded this again from the site and didn't see a black smear area on either page. I think there might be something wrong with the copy you downloaded. Maybe try again and if that doesn't work, mail me your email and I will send it to you that way!

For sure! Let me check with my partners and see if anyone has something. I am going to post this in black and white soon- I usually print it that way and then let the kids color it. Some of them like it the way I have it though. I let them pick!

I really like your math minibook. Do you have other sources that go with the booklet?
For example, addition, division, subtraction rules and examples?
Thanks,
Cathy

I use these as mini-offices- and cut out all of the resources and put them on folders. I have never thought of making a booklet! I teach 5th grade, so don't really do any addition/subtraction rules, but I am in the process of making a division mini-office which I will post this summer. I have a whole list of things I am making this summer! Check back in September.

OK, so these are meant to stand up right? Like dividers??

I glue them onto file-folders and then they can stand upright or students can just use them on the table top/lap. It is nice to laminate them after they are all put together-they stand up better after that. I ALWAYS have students cut-out and glue items on the folders so they have a sense of ownership, then laminate them. Then students can put them up as dividers when working- I just love them. I am almost done with the communication arts ones also! It's on my summer project list.
