I purchased this unit after reading the product description. I thought that your centers/activities would be based on your test-taking strategies that are discussed in your lessons. Though the activities seem very fun and encouraging, they are not what I expected after reading your description--they are crafts and snacks. Would you please consider providing me a refund? I will not use your product.

Thanks for your email--I apologize for any confusion in the description. I reread the description and reviewed the thumbnails and sample downloads to make sure they accurately represent the unit's content and I feel that all accurately represent the unit. In the description it says:

This unit includes:
--Tina, Test Taking Turtle and accompanying poem
--Frankie, Fumbling Fox and accompanying poem
--Detailed instructions on creating Test Prep centers and folders
--10 test taking tips (on both individual pages and on one whole page)
--10 lesson plans to teach test taking tips
--5 test prep activities (with literature connections) to boost self-esteem and motivation
--Customizable parent letters
--Test prep award and student treat bag
--Several color pictures show test prep in action!

All of those items are in the unit; there are directions on how to set up a Test Prep center within your own classroom and use the strategies in this unit at this center. This means that you would copy test prep material that aligns with the strategy(ies) you have taught and students would practice this at the center.

This unit does not provide specific test prep worksheets because each grade has specific concepts and standards that are tested. This unit should be used with existing test prep curriculum and materials to teach valuable strategies, build confidence and increase motivation.

Thanks for the question. That is very exciting. I was the RTI coordinator at my school as well and this is a culmination of many years of experience. I'm glad you are finding it helpful. We do not have a school license yet, so if you could use the protocol used by TPT that would be great. Have you seen our Reading Internvetion Strategy Kit, http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Reading-Intervention-Strategy-Kit-for-RTI-and-Special-Education, or our supplemental Phonics and Sight word units? These were also used very successfully in intervention. Thanks for your support. I will check out your store too!

garity re: Book of Behavior Charts and Tools
Hello, I purchased several of your tools and charts, I look forward to using them! I had a bit of a problem with a couple of the graphics (Homework Reward Chart, Think Sheet) when I printed them out parts of the graphics are pixelated? The exact graphic was also included in another purchase I made and the same problem persisted. suggestions??? Also the Homework Contract is very blurry. Looks like it was scanned and not a master copy. Do you have a clean copy of this document. It looks like it would be a valuable tool. Of the 5 downloads I purchased I have printed 3 of the larger documents and all the other graphics are crisp and clear. My email is cindy@jimgarity.com

Hi, thanks for your question. Here are the standards for the Biography unit:
RI.3.1: Ask and answer questions to demonstrate key understanding of key details in the text, referring explicitly to the text as a basis for the answers.
RI.3.2 Determine main idea of a text; recount the key details and explain how they support the main idea.
RI.3.3. Describe the relationship between the series of events, scientific ideas or concepts or steps in procedures, using language that pertains to time, sequence and cause/effect.
RI.3.4. Determine the meaning of general academic and domain-specific words and phrases in a text relevant to a grade 3 topic or subject area.
RI.3.5. Use various text features (headings, table of contents, maps, timelines, photographs) to locate key facts or information in a text efficiently.
RI.3.7. Use information gained from illustrations, maps, photos and words in text to demonstrate understanding of text (where, when, why, how key events occur).
RI.3.9. Compare and contrast the most important points presented by two texts on the same topic.
W.3.2.Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly..
W.3.4. With guidance and support from adults, produce writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task and purpose.
W.3.8. Recall information from experiences or gather information from print and digital sources; take brief notes on sources and sort evidence into provided categories.

These are third grade standards, but many of these same standards are in 2nd and 4th. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

They are each on an 8.5 x 11 page. If you'd like a different size, we'd be happy to adjust it for you. Our Common Core Reading Strategies Unit has the bulletin board, a book that introduces each character, lesson plans, and character graphic organizers along with a poster with all strategies. My students absolutely LOVE these characters and can't wait to meet each new character/strategy as we go along. I just used velcro to put them on the tree and then take them off and put them on a puppet hand mitt to introduce them.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Jennifer Zoglman is a certified teacher in the areas of elementary and special education with a M.S. in Educational Leadership and B.A. in Special Education. As a special educator since 1998, she has worked extensively with children with various learning abilities. Jessica Murphy is an experienced primary grade teacher with a M.A. in Educational Leadership. Through her extensive experience with differentiation and data-driven instruction, she created a collaborative reading intervention model and manual. Tina Rataj-Berard graduated from Edgewood College in Madison WI with a double major in Studio Art and Graphic Design. She has been working professionally as a Designer since 2003 and currently works full time as an Art Director for an Out of Home Media Company.

JENNIFER ZOGLMAN: As a mom of two young boys, Jennifer has had the wonderful opportunity to coordinate various children's activities, outings, and celebrations in her roles as Moms Club Activities Coordinator and Neighborhood Event Planner. Jennifer's creativity, patience, strong educational background, and love of children have provided the foundation for Astute Hoot's classes. Jennifer is also trained in Lindamood Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing, Seeing Stars, and Wilson Reading System. TINA RATAJ: Tina has a passion for all things fun especially toys and games. Astute Hoot has given her the outlet to take her passion for art and design and marry it with her love of toys and games. She is very excited to create a world of characters and games that will enrich the world of learning tools for parents, teachers and children. JESSICA MURPHY: Jessica spent her first three years at Madison Heights Elementary, which was part of the Milken Family Foundation that provided weekly teacher leader support, monthly evaluations and extensive professional development. In 2004, Heights received the Federal Blue Ribbon Award; Rod Paige, the Secretary of Education at the time, interviewed and observed Jessica during his visit to Heights. Jessica serves as a mentor and helps teachers tailor instruction for individual needs. She also creates and presents several professional development sessions, including a seminar at Staff Development for Educators (SDE) National Conference on Differentiated Instruction.
