I have been teaching for 7 years. My first teaching position was in a 5th grade classroom where I took over for a teacher on maternity leave. The rest of my career has been spent in the primary grades. I have taught 2nd & 1st grade, but am currently teaching 3rd grade. The school I teach at is a Title I, low income school with almost half of the students being second language learners.
I believe students learn best being part of a community where they see themselves as a contributor to the learning of others. Students share & work together which creates an environment where ideas and thinking is appreciated and valued. Learning is done through a workshop model in my classroom. I use a balanced approach for reading & writing.
I have a bachelor's degree and master's degree in education, and I am ESOL endorsed.
