I was not sure which page to use in order to contact you the seller. So, please forgive this entry if it is not in the correct place. I was very happy to purchase questions on the movie Which way home? However, there were some typos. For example: #13)What kinds to advice to they give to the immigrants they meet along the way? and #17) How do their their parents react when they receive the news? Other than the minor typos, the questions kept my students alert and focused as they were not only viewing the film, but actively answering the questions that gave them a better understanding of what the characters were experiencing. What also made the questions very helpful on a personal note was the fact that I had not been feeling well so I was unable to prepare the questions myself----so it was nice to know I had help!Thank you!

Thank you very much. This is such a great website. It encourages me to write good lessons, not just for my students but for anyone who could use a little extra help with popular concepts in Spanish and French. I love movies and books and have enjoyed expanding my lessons beyond my daily teachings. I am very grateful for all the feedback and encouragement provided from other teachers, thank you for following me! :)

Good evening,
I have enjoyed reviewing your products and am intrigued by the movie guides. I am a high school Spanish teacher of both Spanish I and II, but have never actually incorporated movies into the curriculum. How do you find the time to incorporate the movies into the school year? Do you usually show the entire movie or just portions to point out grammar, vocab, etc?

Thank you,

I have worked it several ways. Most of the time however a movie winds up in my curriculum after a large project or end of unit assessment where the students need a break or I need extra grading time. Sometimes they align, however, I use Sweet 15 with the unit on family, SUGAR with the unit on sports (my kids love this film) etc. My students in SPIV are studying topics of immigration, conditions in Latin America, corruption, dictatorships so they get WETBACK, Motorcycle Diaries, Which Way Home and later this year when we discuss Spain I will use La Lengua de las Mariposas. With middle schoolers I have cut the films up and shown them in segments on Fridays, with the study questions or asking them to put sentences that describe scenes in chronological order. When I teach it this way, I run the same segment twice in an hour, with no subtitles the first time and ask them to make predictions/guess at what they saw and then replay it with dialogue. Casi Casi works well for this activity. Hope this helps! :)

Weird yo is not the acronym I use for Subjunctive, rather how I identify verbs that take changes only in the present tense YO form. (required knowledge to build verbs in the subjunctive) the acronym in the packet for learning the uses of subjunctive is WEDDING (Will, Emotion, Doubt, Desire, Impersonal, Necessity, Giving Advice/God) Hope this helps to clear things up. the numbers for the guided adventures are not all present in this packet because the packet was originally written for both French and Spanish students. when I broke the packets apart for separate languages there were a few adventures that only really applied to French students, and #7 is probably the experiment with cheese or the visit to the Godiva store. I checked thru my list of activities I am currently using with Spanish students and don't see any reference to number 7 so I dont think it will cause problems for students as they wont be looking at an activity that requires it.

I just have one question...when I download it, the questions start right off at "escena 2"...are all the conjugations for just that scene, or is it for the first and second scenes...and also, while I'm at it...by scene do you mean "chapter" on the DVD? Thank you for clarifying! Great activity!

Napoleon practice start with the opening scene of the film where is he waiting for the bus to pick him up and runs until the kid in class kicks him and smashes all his tater tots. That wb scene 2 on the Dvd I think bc they count the credits as scene one.

I really would like to purchase this product but I do have one question. I live in a small town in Louisiana. We have a few Mexican style restaurants but unfortunately we do not have a large Hispanic community. Will this product be conducive to the place I live since we do not have a lot of Hispanic people here to engage with?
March 12, 2013 Report inappropriate comment

barbara davis  (TpT Seller)
Of the 103 activities there are probably half a dozen that work best with a Hispanic community. (church service, mexican grocer, eating in a restaurant, foreign film showing, concert) The rest of the activities would all work well from just about anywhere. The internet today has really changed how kids can access information, so music, recipes, everything else they need can be found on line. If you have one decent Mexican restaurant with a few patient waiters they will be thrilled, but thats really not the main focus of the projects.

Number pairs of desks in the room with sticky notes or number cards. So, if you have a class of 24 students you will need 12 stations. I usually just use index cards. Have kids take out a sheet of paper and write the number of their first station. Start the game, determine the winner and tell students to rotate. Winning students move down one number. So if I won at 8 my next stop is 7. Losing students move up one number, so if I won at 5 my next stop is six. With 12 stations if you lose at 12 you move to one and if you win at one you move to 12 and keep counting down each round. Its important to move both winners and losers so kids dont feel bad staying put while others pass them up. rock paper scissors to decide arguments or break ties and then rotate. hope this helps to clear it up, the first time you play its a little tricky to explain, but this game is fun for them and I use the idea for lots of concepts, you dont even need a powerpoint, sometimes I do verbs or vocabulary just writing them on a white board. The directions for the game are on slide 20 (right before the game starts) Basically you are racing your partner for accuracy and speed. Its good to be fast, better to be right. If you tie or fight or disagree or both get it wrong, rock paper scissors to decide a winner and a loser. Winners move one station lower, losers one station higher. Number your new station before each new round. First person back to their seat "winning" wins the game.

I have one product that I translated from The Enlightened Elephant; she gave me permission to post it. In my description I say right out that it is her work. And in the product I ask users to rate HER product (the Spanish version) if they like it. In fact, SHE rated my product and said how cool it was in French too. I meant it as a compliment; I did not intend to upset you.

I am not upset, I hope I did not give you that impression, in fact I appreciate it that you asked me in advance. I am happy you liked the product enough to adapt it to French and to use it. I guess where I become concerned has more to do with accountability. Hypothetically, lets say someone took issue with one of the clip art icons used in the original. I can fix that, but if the French version is out there under another username and credits me, ultimately I become liable, and I cant fix it. I just prefer that my products are something I can edit and control, so that if some day, anyone became unhappy with a picture or a topic, I am free to respond to it. thank you for being considerate enough to ask in advance. :) Barbara

I am a French teacher and have translated this page into French for my own use. Is it okay if I list the translation for free? I would give acknowledgement that it is originally your product.

Honestly I would really prefer if you do not post assignments that I have created in any form or for any price on this website. All my lessons contain a copyright license and are my own creations from my brain. Not all of them are sophisticated, but they are my own ideas and I think its only fair that each teacher post things that belong to them. I have no problem with people who purchase my products sharing them with colleagues in the spirit of good teaching, but the ability to revise products, reproduce them in other languages I teach or remove them are all rights reserved under a copyright, and if other people are posting things I made, and using my name in the credits I cannot control them. I hope you can appreciate and understand my rationale, and will respect the originality and spirit of entrepreneurship that this site and its contributors has worked to foster. Barbara

I have not included answers to this movie, sorry, if you want me to email you some answers I could do that, but I usually dont answer the ??? bc I want the students to come up with their own answers (unless its a very serious film that requires some deep understanding) I have watched the film recently so if you want me to email you how I would answer them zap me your mailing address. Alas, I did not make a key for many of my practice pages when I designed them several years ago, however, if you email me at wumpus30@yahoo.com and attach the por para file I will type in the answers and zap it back to you. I dont think I own the original file anymore, it was several computers ago, but I will complete it within 24 hours if you send it to me. Barbara

Buyer re: Newscast in Spanish: Watch the news and report
I purchased your item. Thank you. But, I'm an English teacher looking for supplemental materials for my son who is in Spanish in high school. I had hoped an answer key would be availalble (I don't know Spanish!). Do you have one?

Since its responding to a newscast, there is no possible way to produce an answer key because it depends on the news you watched that day. Sorry. :(
