I have taught for 4 years since graduating from college that many years ago. I have taught in 3 different grades and 2 different districts. I taught summer school each of those summers and have attended multiple conferences and workshops. I've spent a year as a substitute teacher, entering classroom from Kindergarten through High School. I have also been a math tutor for elementary age children. Aside from the classroom, I also coach swim team and teach swimming lessons. Currently I am teaching my 3 boys at home, ages 4, 2, and 3 months. Teaching is a part of all aspects of my life.
I would consider myself a firm teacher who develops routines and procedures to begin the year and I stand by those routines and procedures throughout the year. My students know the order of our classroom and when a substitute comes in, the students always know what to do becuase of my adherence to our classroom policies. I definitely have a sense of humor that coincides the firmness; therefore allowing the students to enjoy learning as they have a sense of order in the classroom.
I haven't received any honors or awards, but I feel honored to be highly recommended to teach in new schools--based on recommendations from my previous principals. I know I would never have a hard time finding another teaching position because of my strong work ethic and ability to teach that would be evident in those recommendations.
I attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Northern California. After which, I attended college in Utah. Upon graduating, I was offered my first teaching job in Southern Idaho. During my two years there, I was able to attend a junior college and participate in Spanish language classes. This was in an effort to continue my personal learning, specifically in the area of a second language because of the amount of ESL students I had in my class. I wanted to better my teaching of ELL students by having a second language background to draw from.
Knowledge is a lifelong pursuit.
