Although scientific evidence is eons beyond what it was in Bundy's cases, there are other legal ramifications to Bundy which we are now only debating.
Bundy was certain to die because he was in Florida. The USA now varies tremendously from state to state in use of the death penalty. In some states there is rarely if ever an execution. In others it is almost a religion. Florida is at the top of the heap in adminstering the death penalty. It is known world wide for this. In countries which have eliminated the death penalty, like Canada and the UK, they are reluctant to extradite criminals there becuse of Florida's vigorous use of it. Sometimes those countries want assurances that the death penalty will not be used in a case where they grant extradition.
The death penalty is thus very much a matter of state law as long as the states follow the main US Supreme Court cases on handling such cases. Other countries do not have a comparable situation because they do not have states within their countries.
But there are arguably even more important aspects to Bundy. Little did we expect that these serial killers and psychopaths would proliferate in the ensuing decades. With Bundy we had a rare opportunity. He liked to talk. He especially gave us data with his execution date looming, giving up one body after another to try and win a reprieve. We could have studied Bundy for decades. We could have kept him talking. Then maybe we would have been better at spotting an up and coming psychopath like Eric Harris who masterminded the Columbine killings. Harris was able to fool professional after professional in the courts, the pscychology offices and the school because we did not study Bundy in depth. Harris could charm these professionals, just like Bundy did.
Bundy's crimes were horrific. He certainly deserved the death penalty. However, the question was not asked, how can we make best use of him? Sadly, that question is still not being asked as we find these killers. This is even though there are definite characteristics we can use to help spot them. For example, psychpaths have very short attention spans. That aspect can be used against them. The ideal time to strike against them is when their attention starts wandering yet again.

I may not be very powerpoint proficient. My only problem is that the system in the classroom allows me to project from my laptop directly to the screen. I need to be able to separate the answers to they are not visible to the students before it is time. How do I do that?
Also, there is no way to tell which questions have already been selected. That is solved by having someone keep track throughout the game. Otherwise the previously selected questions still appear - sometimes we forget and students select the same one twic.

I have each question on its own slide and each answer on its own slide. So I can't understand how your students can see the answers UNTIL you click on the slide with the answer. The way you mention showing it is the same way I did it. I projected from my laptop too. The answer did not show until I clicked on it. As far as keeping score on the questions, this was a template I got for creating these shows. I do not have any ability to create my own game shows, unfortunately! Thus, the only way I can suggest scoring is to make one overall print of the whole show and place one student in charge of keeping track of it each time. If you write me at the general question section of this site, not attached to a specific product, the site will send your question to me privately. We can end up writing back and forth in email that way without anyone else seeing our addresses. Maybe I can better understand the problem you are having that way. Carol

The amendment jeopardy game downloaded in keynote on my macbook. However, I can not get the question windows to open to play the game. I can see the slides full sized by clicking on each one, but can not open from slide one so the game can be played. What am I doing wrong?

as i recall, the format was ppt, which keynote can handle BUT as a Mac user myself i have noticed within the last year that with each upgrade in apple, it seems to like non apple stuff less and less. for example, non apple audiobooks used to work great in itunes, ipad, etc., now i have to jump through hoops to get my own audiobboks into my ipads. so my rec is to download and install the free open office and see if your problem disappears when using that instead. i just spent most of today loading my new ipad mini with my own content. i needed to use every ounce of my high tech head in order to get around apple's dislike of my own content. if the problem still persists, then email me at carolkirvin@gmail.com

I too taught for the associate degree. One big problem I needed to resolve was the wide disparity of ability, prior education and big socio-economic gulfs among my students. I was also given very large classes. I learned by trial and error and the number one thing I learned was that just text in any kind of presentation was a disaster. Hence, I began to combine my art skills with my law skills. This made an enormous difference, We went from an annoying level of background whispering to a silence where you could hear a pin drop. If I do a presentation that is just text, I find some other way of upping the entertainment value. Sometimes for my husband, also a lawyer and an instructor, I will put together a presentation for him when he complains about sheer exhaustion from three hours of lecturing, My approach removes that burden and he can deliver the teaching assignment with a lot less work and energy. He is currently exhausting himself with a three hour ethics course. I am offering to put together. presentation for him. I figure he should cave any day now.

THE REST IS MY ORIGINAL RESPONSE: this is a version or two behind the current. however, i have gotten really tired of updating photoshop and photoshop elements as it seems they are in a constant "improvement" mode. these serve to make already dense programs even denser. i am an artist not a technician and this focus on let's get yet another tool and technique instead of let's get a good idea going, really irritates me. to this end, i am now teaching myself the app on my ipad called adobe photoshop touch. i personally believe this is where image editing has to go, with our hands and fingers, rather than through a maze of keyboard shortcuts, dropdown menus, etc., no one has complained about this product. in fact, they seem to really like it. so i have kept it up here as a product even though i am moving now in a different direction. i will probably remove it eventually as i know everyone likes the latest program to be featured. sorry to be so long winded here but i have worked with students on photoshop and i think their thinking processes are turned around from where they should be. carol

i made flashcards in the infancy of the ipad movement. they did not sell well so i did not further investigate the new apps which came through the apple app store for ipads. you need to go to that store and look at the apps which come up for flashcards. the app specifiies if you need to use any software on another computer. the trend is that you can do everything on the ipad itself. i can't remember the app i used but it is antiquated at this point.

I added three more Yates' poems to your package and you should be receiving a notice to download again. One of the poems is two pages so you will have have 7 pages of printable poetry instead of 3. These take time to create in Photoshop with a special font. There is no other way to get you such a good image which will create a great full size print for your classroom use. If you have any further problems, please let me know. My college students at Drake University tell me that they use Jeopardy to learn the FRE so this is one suggestion. I thought about writing courtroom scenes and having the students practice their objections. I am looking for drill and practice materials especially over hearsay and hearsay exceptions, plus trial procedure such as how to introduce evidence. There's a lot more I need help with like making the closing arguments. Is this enough? lol I'm an economist who teaches law in our department since no one else will. Many of my students win the state law tournament and become lawyers. I just don't want to devote all of my time to writing law as I'm paid to write economics. Hope you can help. Flad

This reminds me of the days when I was teaching law in the college classroom and they talked me into also teaching appraisal and finance as they couldn't find and keep anyone else to do it. I worked out a creative approach for appraisal but finance was really a creative problem for me. We are in rather reverse situations!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
a teacher my whole adult life, especially at the community college level in legal and property related topics. I am primarily a self taught artist, with my work exhibited in museums and galleries. It has sold internationally. I began adding my art work into my teaching as time went on, even handing it out as rewards for students who did well. I also used it extensively in my presentations. My students range at the community college included people who barely had high school skills to those who already had their degrees. Thus, I include both higher education and the lower grades in most of my materials. Straight out of college, I did teach fifth grade language arts for two years but well. In recent years I have moved into continuing education as well.
