After teaching seventh and eighth grade Language Arts at a private school, I found it necessary to stay home with my children. Not yet ready to return to the classroom, but aching to stay atop trends in the field, I began volunteering at our local Alternative High School. I loved working with the students one-on-one and individualizing instruction. I was soon offered a position to help begin a preschool developing a classroom for 3 and 4 year olds. Through this, I am beginning to fully understand how important patience and finding ways to motivate and challenge students can be in impacting student learning!
It is important to meet students where they are and move them forward. In order to write well, students must be able to read well. Most of my curriculum is set up to begin with reading and discussing followed by writing that reflected this. Grammar and vocabulary grow from the novels, short stories, poetry or other mediums that we are studying.

I have received a BS in English Education and am certified to teach this subject in grades 5-12. I have been trained in 6+1 Traits of Writing, Junior Great Books, Writer's Workshop, and have participated in NWP and ITWWP from 2005-2007. I look forward to my time with colleagues, especially at the Writing Projects where excellent teachers and ideas are plentiful!
