Loved this. Punctuating dialogue can be confusing and tedious. The boldfaced changes made it so easy to see the rule in action. LOVED the "said" part of the lesson as well. That REALLY drove home the point. I could hear my students discussing changes in their writing immediatly after!

I am going to try this next week with my juniors. I can't wait! My only suggestion would be to include a written example of each type of speech. I'm predicting that my kids will need one, but I could be wrong. Very creative project and great way to get the kids used to public speaking without having to research a formal speech.

Just a quick question. I am using your night packet and i noticed that the quiz just covers the first part of the book. Is there another quiz or a test that covers the entire book?

I had originally done it this way because when I teach it I use projects for a summative ending. Thanks so much, Casey. I am only in my second year of teaching, and this is my first time teaching research papers. (So, it's sad to say but we don't "call it" anything! I think I will refer to it as a "Topic Title"...) :) I teach 7th & 8th grade language arts at a small charter school, so we are often working on our own to come up with good supplies/curriculum to teach certain concepts. I haven't actually used your product yet, but I will be using it soon. I really appreciate your sharing your ideas & documents. Hi Andie! Thanks for writing! Some people call that label at the top of the card that tells what topic the note pertains to as the "slug." I had learned it as "tag," but my colleagues with whom I teach the research paper all called it a "slug" because that is what our research section in our language arts books called it, and they desired consistency, understandably! (They made me create the rubric since I was the one who kept asking questions about how to grade these things!) I sincerely meant to change it, but I neglected to do so. You may call it whatever you desire - maybe "topic title" is a better choice - but let me know what you and your colleagues call it! Hope this helps! Thanks for purchasing the product!!! TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Over 20 years of experience as a secondary teacher in public school systems in Indiana and Ohio pushed me to be more creative and risk-taking with my lesson plans. A former administrator of mine (Mr. V!) really supported and encouraged my teaching outside of the box in order to challenge my students and myself.
