I began my teaching career in the elementary grades teaching a Special Education Self-Contained Classroom. I changed school districts and taught in Junior High School, 6-8th. I taught Social Studies/History, Reading, and Math. I became a teacher/administrator at a small private school for 9th-12th grade. I taught Geography and History, plus Biology and some English. I have had a wide variety of experience, not only with subject area, but with types of students, as well.

Because my background was in Special Education, I always tried to incorporate hands-on, interactive types of projects. I like the creative sort of projects that students can take pride in their finished project and have fun while learning. I believe that incorporating their own creativity in their projects not only makes learning fun for them, but gives them ownership in what they are learning. In that way, I believe all students learn better, not just those with disabilities.

In my third year of teaching I won "Teacher of the Year" for my school. While teaching Junior High, I won the "Kid's First" award presented to those teachers who know how to make learning fun.
