I taught for 15 years; 6 years in 6th grade and 8 years in 5th grade. I spent my last year in 3rd grade and various summers teaching middle school. I also was lead teacher for 5th grade and led many workshops on how to teach 5th grade math. For the past 6 years I have been writing curriculum for many companies including Key Curriculum Press and Kaplan. I also speak at math conferences.
I believe mathematics learning should be hands-on and discovery/activity based. Students want to learn and grasp ideas in such a variety of ways, if they have no pre-conceived notion of what is "right."

I got my undergraduate degree in Architecture from U.C. Berkeley, and then my teaching credential at San Jose State University.
I have two sons; one who just finished high school, and one a sophomore, so I am aware of current math practices and learning high school math.
