Hi,

Thanks for purchasing my folder. If you go to my tpt website, you will find a word document of homework sheets that are themed for different months of the year.

If you can't find it, email me and I'll send you a version.

Are all the activities in Spanish, or is it English work with Spanish instructions for the parents to understand? I couldn't see any of the actual examples of the work, just the letter to the parents. Thanks

Hi Jenny,

Did u download the preview? The preview shows examples of the different activities for the students to complete. (The homework folder is full of activities not homework sheets.) It might help to look at the English version on my tpt store because the Spanish version has the exact same activities.

I think depending on how fluent the parents r in English, they could do the activities in English or Spanish. For example one of the activities is to count to 100 by 10s. This could be accomplished in English or Spanish. Some activities have to be done in English such as the word wall word flash cards.

I myself am not a Spanish speaker, my colleague Patricia Garcia, who is a native Spanish speaker, translated it for me. She said she wrote the instructions in Spanish with the intent that parents would do the homework in English.

Hope that helps!

I am interested in implementing this type of homework. I have little parental involvement so I am worried that if they don't have something specific (worksheet) right in front of them it might not get done at all. (a lot of older siblings help too) Have you or any of your buyers had experience with this type of situation?

Hi, thank you for your interest in my homework folder. I have not had any TPT buyers say that getting parents to do the homework has been a problem. Also, many teachers in my school district use my homework folder and they have not had that issue either.

In fact, the feedback I have gotten is that parents AND students are excited about the homework because they love the activities. They say it's so nice to sit down and do the activities rather than fight their child to complete a worksheet. They also like the fact that they can adjust the activity to fit their child's needs rather than completing a "one size fits all" worksheet. This is coming from teachers who teach in all different types of schools across our district.

Also, I have students who do the homework with older siblings and it works fine too. In fact, a lot of the older siblings used to be in my class and have fond memories of the homework folder! :)

Hope that helps! If u decide to buy it I'd love to hear what your parents think. Email me chrisann.toelupe@gmail.com

Thanks,

Chrisann

I have been looking into purchasing your Kindergarten Homework Activities - Year Pack....I struggled with homework in the past and have been looking for a new solution and this looks perfect! I just had one question/concern...we emphasis mastering sight words and practicing every night. I may have missed it, but I did not notice any sight word activities in your homework packet. How do you have students practice their sight words?
July 23, 2013 Report inappropriate comment

Chrisann Toelupe  (TpT Seller)
Hi Laura,

Thanks for your interest in my homework folder. Im with you on the sight words! I expect my students to have them mastered too. Pgs 10-11 of the homework folder are activities dedicated to the mastering of word wall words aka sight words. There are 16 activities total.

For some odd reason I didn't feature the word wall pages on my preview. I need to add those pages to my preview! If you are interested in what some of the activities look like, you can download my flashcard activities from my tpt store and it will show you 8 of the different activities for word wall words that are also featured in the homework folder. (Its a free download.)

I send home word wall word flash cards. There is also a copy of the word wall words in the back of the homework folder. I continually put the word wall word activities from the homework folder on the weekly homework sheet for students to practice during the year. ALL my students passed them off last year! I know they were able to pass them off because they were practicing at school AND at home. Plus, they loved doing the engaging activities from the homework folder associated with the flash cards.

When u buy the folder, it will share a link with you where you can change the word wall/sight words from the homework folder to match the specific ones you are working on at your school. I'm sure your list is a little different than mine depending on what Literacy program you use.

I hope that helps...and makes sense.

Thanks, Chrisann

I am interested in buying your homework activities, I like that the activities are hands on. I hate sending home worksheets! My questions are in regards to how you manage this. Do you only assign homework 4 days a week Mon- Thurs? Do you check the homework daily or do they turn the sheet in on Friday? I would prefer checking it once a week, will that work?
July 15, 2013 Report inappropriate comment

Chrisann Toelupe  (TpT Seller)
Hi,

Thank you for your interest in my homework folder. Here's the answers to your questions;

Yes, I only assign homework Monday-Thursday. Most parents do the homework Monday-Thursday. Some parents use the week-end to catch up if they've had a busy week.

Yes, I check homework once a week. Every Monday I record homework from the previous week and put in a new weekly homework sheet for the upcoming week. I have students bring the homework folder every day to school for two reasons. 1- I put all important papers from the office in their homework folders. 2- I trade out their take-home books daily which I store in the homework folders. (And when I say "I"...I actually mean parent volunteers!) With that said, I think it would totally work to only have the students bring their homework folders on Fridays or Mondays...if that works better in your classroom. When you buy the homework folder it comes in a PDF. (That way all the fonts come through.) But there is a link where you can get certain pages from the homework folder in a word document so you can change parts of the folder to fit your needs. You can change the wording on the "Parent Information" page to say that you only want the homework folders to be turned in on Fridays.

No, I do not provide paper for the homework activities. There have been a few cases in my 15 years of teaching where I have had students who I knew did not have access to paper, pencils, scissors, crayons, glue, etc at their home so I sent home supplies with those students. For the most part, I just tell parents they will need to make sure their students have paper for the homework and they supply it on their own and they are O.K. with it.

Thank you for your interest in my homework folder. My parents absolutely love it as do my students. Parents always comment on how their students love to do the activities. They also say it's nice to interact with their students during the activities instead of having to fight them to do a worksheet. Parents also love it because it explains the new expectations for Kindergarten and they want to be a part in helping their students rise to those expectations.

If you have any other questions let me know. :)

Thanks, Chrisann Toelupe

Hi! Are you talking about the revisions I made this summer? I didn't revise any of the content of the folder. I added the flash cards so you don't have to download them separately. I also added detailed instructions for implementing the folder. There are also links in the new instructions to get word versions of the weekly homework sheets and first few pages of the folder so you can tailor it to your needs. (I basically just added a few things based on buyer input.)

The folder you run off for students has no changes. Hope that helps. :)

Does the homework you have go in order from August through June or do I have to search for the correct order that works for me?

Hi Alexandra, you choose the order that works for you! All the common core skills are covered in the homework folder. You get to choose the activities that fit your curriculum map. This way parents are reviewing concepts you covered in class.

The homework folder is organized just like the common core, foundational skills, phonics and word recognition, literature, etc so it's pretty easy to find the activities to match your scope and sequence.

Did u download the preview? Hopefully seeing the preview will help you decide if it's something you r interested in. My parents absolutely love it and so do my students. They love the activities and are excited about homework which is what it's all about :)

I would be fine with that. You will have to get in contact with TPT and have them fix it. They take care of all the money and cut me a check every three months.

If that doesn't work, email me and I'll figure something out. chrisann.toelupe@gmail.com. There has been one other instance where this happened and TPT was prompt in fixing the problem for the customer.

Thanks for the interest in my homework folder. It is a PDF. With it being a 42 page document, things would get really messed up in a word document. If you want to purchase it, I can send you the cover page, the information page for parents, and the weekly homework sheet in a word document. Those are really the only pages you would need to write on. I could also send you the entire homework folder in a word document, but it might not be worth it ahappy may not have the same fonts and your page numbers could get messed up. Hi! I am not a Spanish speaker myself. I have my ESL endorsement, but I do not speak Spanish...well maybe a pequeno! Patricia Garcia told me she translated the folder exactly as my English folder was written. Her goal was to have all the page numbers on the Spanish version match the page numbers on the English version so she could not fit in the cute clip art text boxes. The English folder's instructions/information for parents are written in the text boxes. In the Spanish version, the instructions/information is there, but not in the text boxes. So if you look above activity 5 on page 4 of the Spanish version, the information for parents is there,it's just not in a text box. Does that make sense? Does that answer your question?

So there is no worksheet for them to write anything? The reason I am asking is that how do you know if they really did what you asked for if there is nothing to register? I need to make sure that they are really working at home, that's why I am asking.

Valesca,
Thank you for your interest in the Spanish version of My Homework Folder. I just updated the “download preview” to include more activities for you to see. It now includes 4 pages of activities, the explanation for parents, and the weekly homework sheet. (The weekly homework sheet is the only thing you will need to copy from week to week.) You will run off the entire homework packet for students and place it in a folder for students to use the entire year. Then parents look at the “weekly homework sheet” for activities to complete from week to week. (If you look at my thumbnail for my English Version, you will see a picture of what the homework folder looks like when it is all put together. I’m still working on a similar thumbnail for my Spanish version.)

The homework folder contains plenty of activities to keep your students busy all school year. In fact, I don’t get to all of the activities because many of the activities I put on the “weekly homework sheet” multiple times a year. As you will see from the download preview, activity #11 is practice your ABC flashcards. There are seven different games under that one activity. I put activity #11 on my homework sheet at least 20 times a year. Same thing folds true for word wall words, # recognition, and other “big rocks” of the Kindergarten curriculum.

The Homework Folder is a great teaching tool for parents. Many parents remember their Kindergarten experience as playing in the doll house, taking a nap, and eating a snack. When they see the homework folder, it helps them understand expectations in a Kindergarten classroom today.

Do you have any more questions? If so, let me know. Thank you for the suggestion of adding more activities to my download. I think I’ll do the same thing for the English version as well.

Thanks,

Chrisann Toelupe

There were no activities, worksheets or games pre made or included. There are some assignments where the families have to gather materials, books and such. Do they actually do it? It seems many parents are visual people and if they don't see an activity completely there with visuals, they don't put time into completing homework.

Buyer re: Kindergarten Homework Activities- Year Pack. Licensed for Four Teachers
I see you have 2 homework year long products. What is the difference between the $20 one and the $80 one? Both preview and type up are the same. $80 is an extreme amount for small preview.

You are right. The homework folders are the same. The $80 one is a license for four teachers to use. If only you will be using the homework folder for your class, you would only need to buy the twenty dollar one. (Sorry to confuse you. I had a team of four teachers who wanted to purchase the folder together instead of individually.) Chrisann Toelupe

Hi Chrisann,
I downloaded your Common Core Homework Activities and wanted to use them next year for my Kindergarten classroom. I showed the packet to my principal and literacy coach. The principal said I need to get written permission from you to be able to make copies. Is there a way for that to happen? Second I wanted to send it to our ESOL office to have them translate it in to spanish for my spanish speakers. Would this be okay with you? If so, when I get it back from the ESOL office I could send you the copy and you could add it for people to download. Thanks. Bonnie

Hi Bonnie, Thanks for purchasing my homework folder. I hope your parents enjoy it as much as mine. When you purchase the folder, you have my permission to make as many copies as you need for your students. I just ask that if a colleage wants to use it, then you refer them to the tpt website to purchase their own copy.

Also, my friend Patty Garcia is suppose to be translating my homework folder into Spanish and I I am going to sell it on the website as well. I will email her and see when she thinks she will have it done. I'm glad you are interested in getting it translates into Spanish. My Spanish parents loved my old version before the common core came out. Many of the bilingual parents asked for versions in English and Spanish. This way they could compare the academic language and use the English academic language with their children. The monolingual parents were grateful to be able to help their children in ther native language. I will email Patty right now and ask her when she plans on having the Spanish version ready.

Thanks, Chrisann Toelupe

Hi Chrisann,
I purchased your Homework Packet today, and was wondering if you would please email a copy of page 45 (the blank weekly copy) to me so that I can electronically change the data. I emailed you at the address that you had listed, so you can respond there.
Thanks,
Amy

Thanks for your interest in my homework folder. Is there a way to preview my entire homework folder without letting people download it for free? I thought that anything that was shown in the preview could be download. I'm new to this website so I'm still learning how it works.

Tomorrow I'll see if my brother-in-law can help me put an entire preview on here. I'm good at writing curriculum, but not so good with the computer. :).

Hey Chrisann! I am a Kindergarten teacher as well and I am very interested in your Kindergarten Homework Packet...however, I was wondering if there is more of a preview? I LOVE the idea of using the common core! I'm just not sure I'm ready to pay 20.00 on something I haven't gone through! Thanks!

Do you date the homework as you go along or is it all dated like in the preview? I am hoping it is not dated so I could use it year to year.

I'm not sure I understand the question... There are no dates by the homework activities. Each activity has a number by it. So for example, my weekly homework sheet for this week has the number 129 written under Wednesday. Parents will look up activity 129 in the folder and help their child with the activity. (the activity is comparing two sets of objects to see which has more or less.) Each week I make up a new "weekly homework sheet" and place it in the front of the homework folder. ( I save these weekly homework sheets in my computer and year after year I pull them up change the dates at the top, tweak it a little and print it off)! When u buy the homework folder you will get a blank "weekly homework sheet). You put in the activity numbers under each day of th week to match your scope and sequence. Does that help or make it worse! In the preview I'm just showing you an example of what a weekly homework sheet might look like.

So do you hand it out all at once in the folder or do you do it as you go along?

Yes I hand it all out at once in the folder. Then each week I put a new "weekly homework sheet" in the front of the folder and assign one to two activities per night. Most parents only read the activities their children are assigned for the week. Some ambitious parents read the entire folder which is great because they can see all their child will be learning. (I think some parents think Kindergarten is still naps, snacks, and playing with blocks. When they see the homework folder they realize Kindergarten is so much more.). Does that help?

Do you assemble the packet and hand it out or do you parcel it out as you go along?

I run the entire packet off at once. This was its done and you dont have to worry about it. The packet is 43 pages so I run it off with two sided copies. Tip: I send it to my district office and they run it off for me and my principal pays for it out of our text book monies. Hope this helps. If u have any other questions let me know. Chrisann Toelupe.

I saw your store on the home page of Teachers Pay Teachers; so, I thought I would look at your freebie. I left you a rating. Well done! Here a couple of suggestions that might help you to better market this product. First, put your directions and suggestions up front. Sometimes buyers won't look through a product; so, having the directions and/or suggestions first gives them some idea on how to use your resource. Also, create a cover page which can then be used as an attractive thumbnail to entice buyers. Finally, increase the font size on your directions/suggestions pages. It is difficult for "old" people like me to read.

I hope you will have time to rate my new freebie listed below.

I am now your 4th follower, and hope you will reciprocate at my store as well. http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/SciPi/Products

Good luck as you sell on TPT!
