Christopher,

I have purchased and downloaded classmark. I have a macbook. It seems like there is a protection on the excel sheet, that is keeping me from being able to see students name on the class sheet, and adding their grades. When I try to, the message I get says, "The cell or chart you are trying to change is protected and therefore read-only. To remove protection, on the tools menu, point to protection, and then click unprotect sheet. You may be prompted for a password. Do you happen to have a password for this?

Hello,
My apologies for the delay in my response. The email had automatically gone to my junk folder.

All students need to be added to the central database first, so that email addresses and other information will be synchronised across classes. Although one extra step initially, this makes everything run smoothly and easily in the future.

To add students, simply follow the directions on p3 and p4 of the instruction manual under, 'Modifying the Class List'. If you have misplaced your instruction manual, it is available here: http://classmark.net/editions_files/classmark%20Professional%20Edn%20Instructions.pdf

If you have any further questions, or need clarification of anything found in the instruction manual, please feel free to contact me again.

I trust that classmark will be a useful tool to you in the classroom.
Kind Regards,
Chris Spencer

Hi,
Thanks for the program, I have downloaded and like what I see so far but have not decided to use it yet. Is there an option to omit an assignment or test for a student without it counting against their marks?

Thanks for the question Carolyn. The easiest way to do this is to use the weighting row above the maximum marks row. Enter '0' in the weighting for the assignment you wish to exclude AND make sure that the other assignments you wish to use add up to 100 in the weighting row. A tick will be shown next to the title 'Weighting %' if your weighting does equal 100. Please also refer to the 2nd paragraph on p5 of the manual for more information on weighting. Thanks for you interest. I hope you find classmark helpful! Please don't hesitate to ask more questions if you have them.
Kind Regards,
Chris Spencer

I have just re-read your question and realised that I may have misinterpreted it. My initial interpretation was that you wanted to omit an entire assessment piece, rather than omitting a student's result within an assessment piece. The answer to the latter is 'yes' and its very easy.
Simply don't put in a mark for that student. OR, put in an 'a' for absent or some other text. So long as there isn't a number in the respective cell, it will not be counted. If you do wish to enter a 0 mark, then simply enter '0'. Put simply, text and blanks will not be included and number will be included. I hope this helps. Sorry for the original misinformation.
Kind Regards,
Chris Spencer.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I love sport. I love cricket and Australian Rules football. I also enjoy a bit of woodwork to make a variety of furniture. I am a passionate about teaching, particularly pre-teens. I have a great interest in classroom management approaches and in particular like the work of Bill Rogers, William Glasser and Fred Jones. I particularly like making the classroom run smoothly so that Administrative tasks can be taken care of quickly and simply and a maximum amount of time can be dedicated to learning. The development of 'classmark' over a period of about seven years came out of a desire to simplify administrative tasks for teachers. I hope you enjoy my resources.
