This is super cute but I say this is second and third grade...not 4th grade. Fourth grade needs much more rigor in their activities. This would be good for prerequisite skills. I will be ECE next year and look forward to using it with my younger kids. Very cute! I am in KY so I will use it at Derby time!! :)

Thank you for your honest feedback! My fourth graders have never had line plots before this year. They have only worked with bar graphs. This is more of an introductory lesson to line plots, but in my opinion still a good place to start. I think it depends on where your students are. Maybe after a few years of CCSS implementation, this will be too easy for them. Right now this is where I needed to start with them. I will try to do a better job with the description so teachers will understand this is more of an introduction to line plots. THANK YOU!!! I made those in Publisher with the basic shapes feature and the help of my graphic artist teacher. It was really easy. I would gladly give them to you, but I don't have a clue how graphic artists turn them into png images. I would think you could make them in other programs pretty easily if it has a shapes and grouping tool. Sorry, I can't be of more help to you. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

This is not the right product for your needs. Sorry! I don't teach older students, but I think they would think this was too babyish. I would be afraid to recommend anything from my store for older students. I have Presto Changeo in my store that covers improper and mixed fractions, but it is a game. I'm super proud of all my fraction products because they have worked so well for my students. All of my students are able to decompose fractions (even IEP students) and apply their knowledge to answering fraction word problems. I've done a lot of research on teaching fractions and believe they should be well grounded in fractions before being taught algorithms. I believe in teaching students to visualize a fraction first. I have an anchor, I'd be happy to send you for free. It teaches them to first, "Ask what is the WHOLE?" Then compare it to the benchmark fraction 1/2. If your students can't do that, I think you need to back track. I believe with all my heart this is key to being successful with fractions. I've used this and my other games to ground my students. At this point in the year, I would put my kids head to head with 7th graders. Seriously! I had two students last week find the answer to a fraction word problem by dividing using a decimal, convert back to a fraction, and simply the fraction. Blew my mind because they are only 4th graders. I'm sorry to make this response so long, but fractions are my passion. I did not get fractions when I was in school and my Master's is in Special Education, so I'm passionate about helping students "get it." Thanks for the explanation. I teach third grade, it is not their first experience with fractions, but I like to create a strong foundation, too. I can apply the CCLS following along with our NY READY CC book, we are now using.
I will look at it again and decide, but I really appreciate the hard work.

Yes and no. I'm teaching Common Core and used the standards to create all my fraction products, which is why I say yes. I do not have the CC standards listed in the product, which is why I say no. I don't mind adding them in but they would flip flop between 3rd and 4th grade CC standards primarily. I consider this unit to be foundational. My students were weak in fractions so they needed some 3rd grade foundational work. If your students are strong in fractions then you will probably want to wait for my advanced unit to come out. If they are weak, then this is where you should start. This unit focuses primarily on visualizing fractions and understanding benchmark fractions. These are the lessons I used with my students, and they honestly blow me away now with their fraction knowledge. Even my special ed student is able to decompose fractions. (This unit does NOT go into decomposing fractions.) This unit is NOT about teaching algorithms. In fact, I try to keep the algorithms a secret. At this point (January) they are starting to figure some the algorithms out though. I have read numerous professional books on fractions, including Marilyn Burns. I created these products based on their research and my own classroom research. I apologize for the length of this reply. I'm so passionate about my fraction lessons because they have worked so well for my students. But I want my costumers to be completely satisfied, and would never want someone to buy something they couldn't use.
