I really like the open-ended questions and how students are asked to go back to the text to provide evidence. I would have liked the tasks to have included text-to-self connections as a follow-up. A good resource.

In looking over your information it appears that you use (or once used) the SOAR To Success program. Our Elementary school bought this program (using local funds) for grades 3-5 last year. We are the only school in our county (Greenville, SC) that uses this program for the older elementary grades. Our district uses this program county wide for K5-2nd. I am getting ready to start my second year implementing this program for the older grades. I teach six 45 minute classes to 36 students each day (12 students in each 3-5 grade) and love your additional worksheets that you have done for some of the books. I like the reflection questions that come with the Student Guides, but feel that children in these grades should be able to do a little more work. Since I work with each of the levels I hope to be able to create some additional worksheets similar to what you have done, but am still a little overwhelmed with all the work involved. I would love any tips that you may have with the SOAR program or RTI material that you may use. Thanks!

I love the books they use, but I always made additional worksheets for whatever skill I was working on. I also worked with 3-6th grade. Send me your email my emailing me at dgrimes@altoonasd.com. TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have taught reading in grades 1st through sixth grade for three years, and taught sixth grade for 1 year.
MY TEACHING STYLE
My style of teaching is creating a love for reading for all my students! I have every type of reading material available for the students who hate "to read" books. I use newspapers, magazines, articles, internet, chapter books, on-line books, and etc. to entice students to read. If you make reading fun, children will enjoy reading. I use microphones, Photoshop, Ipods, Podcasts to get students to read aloud. They love it! Implementing Readers Theatre is a plus!

I also love to travel especially to Seattle to visit my sister who teaches sixth grade. I have ran four marathons and have a passion in playing golf. My wish is to travel to other countries to teach.
