I have 15 years co-teaching experience Pre-K to grade 12. I love creating materials to use because I get bored using the same things year to year. Technology has been such a boost to the creative options out there - it is endless! I found my calling as a School Counselor in 6:1:1 Therapeutic Classroom with a Co-Teaching Model; I can track and analyze behaviors, teach and work in a small group setting where I can see tremendous progress. This past year I found myself experiencing the role of Adjunct Professor - again a role that I enjoyed in a different way - teaching about a subject that I am passionate about (school counseling and special education). It is amazing the opportunities that await us when we are open to possibilities - something I try to instill in my students daily.
I am so much like the students I work with. I understand somewhat how it feels to be on sensory overload - I dislike tags in my clothing, I get overwhelmed when there is too much going on in the classroom, I really dislike the overhead lights in the classroom, I prefer hands-on and meaningful lessons. I learn best when materials are presented in a multi-sensory, hands-on, interactive style. So that is how I teach. I also do not raise my voice, unless it is absolutely necessary or unless I am breaking out into laughter or song. :-) Something that I am catching the students doing during their breaks.
