I know you use it in fourth....Am I going to be able to adapt it for third grade use? Do the powerpoint slides have to be used on a SMART board? We have interactive whiteboards and can't use files created specifically for SMART boards. Can I see a larger sample before I commit? Thanks!

All of the graphic organizers, trade book recommendations, and minilessons would go well with 3rd grade. Unfortunately the smartboard file can only be opened in SMART software. However, I am working on converting everything to PowerPoint so that more people are able to use it! Make sure you are following my store for that update. The Smartboard version has everything that the PDF version has except all of the instructions you would see are on the Smartboard. These are great for modeling with your kids. There is no need to buy both unless you would like to have a printed version of all of the minilessons to create a notebook (for yourself) of some sort. I have recently included hard copies of forms into the attachment file on the Smartboard version. This will give you anything that you may want to copy for your students. I love, love, love your entire line of detective material! My only issue is in the skin tone of the 'detectives' illustrated. My classroom is pretty diverse and I want everyone to feel included. My solution was simply to take pictures of the students at parent-night this Thursday and x-acto knife them into the illustrations when possible.

Do you just buy graphics and use that or do you need a special type of software? I have asked other collegues and not found any knowledgeable answers. I appreciate your help and look forward to hearing from you. :)

I just buy the graphics (and fonts) from various clip art artists and give them credit at the end of my items. Some people make documents in Word but I prefer PowerPoint. The graphics, text, etc are must easier to manipulate and make them appear as I want them to appear. No special software is needed. I hope this helps :)

Thanks! I like the way you set them up with the cute pictures and easy to read font. They are awesome! I've got alot of brown going on with my detective theme already so might I ask if you could swap out the border to a polka dot theme like black, blue, purple, green or orange with white dots. They can all be the same color border because the pictures & text will guide them. My Daily Five already has red & white with the detectives and I want the writing to look different- so no red border. I really want them and will purchase first before the change if you prefer. Love the clip chart idea for writing ! I have been struggling with how to find the space for this and keeping it simple too so students could help implement. I don't have alot of wall space or even room for more pocket charts, although I love using them. I was wondering what do the other signs have printed on them and are there any picture clues?Also, I teach first grade, so I would like to know if the font could be changed out to something simpler for primary. There are not any picture clues on the signs, however I can add them. I can also do them in the coordinating colors to the detective theme since you were interested in that if you wish. I will change the font as well.

Hi - I love what I can see of the detective set- lots of great ideas! Re:student nametag-are you able to add the alphabet (manuscript) on top with vowels in another color and a numberline on the bottom that alternates numbers in two coordinating colors ? I would be willing to pay some extra $ for the customizing. They can be as be as big as 11 X 4 if need be and the name part could be slimmer if necessary to fit. I really wanted my nametags to have some tools on them this year, but I also love the detective theme. Please let me know if you are able to modify them and do this.

I love these letters and it is so nice that they are free :) I copied them to use on my word wall and saw that I was missing the letters U-Y in each set. Is there any way you could add those to the set. If you can't I can always write the letters in on the blanks.
