Hi John,
Glad to see your move has gone well and the pics on FB show one happy family. Just a quick question...any chance you are going to bundle all the DAILY DOSE? I would love to just have one product to download...price is not the issue...would just prefer to buy it all in one go!

Hello My Dear Friend! :)
I am happy to bundle it, but the series isn't complete. I was hoping to finish it off this summer...ha ha. Feedback about bundling the first half and then the second half and then the whole thing? Too much bundling? Or would that make sense?
Would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks for asking-

Just stopping by to give you a big THANK YOU for the work you did putting together a fantastic session at the TPT conference! Being a well-experience, retired, forgetful teacher (meaning OLD!) I love being able to view your videos from the session. I tried setting up a board this morning for all our KinderLit books but of course I had forgotten how to insert our picture. Then I remembered the QRs on your handout and was able to get it done! Slowly but surely all our books will be on our new board. And I'll be editing our boards based on categories.

Again, thanks for taking the time and effort to share with the rest of us! Best of luck to you on TPT - I hope to see your name up in lights for the newest millionaire!

Howdy! What a great question-
I currently teach 6th grade, but I designed this resource to be used by any grade/classroom! I truly feel that it can be used from Kindergarten to High School. :)
I know it have been successfully used by 4th-6th (as I have shared it with teachers within my school), and have had many positive responses from teachers of many grades. It is not themed in any way, making it wide open for all ages.
Thanks for your questions- please let me know if you have more-

I don't think so. The mobile is very personalized while the Box project is more partner interview and class info based. I plan to use them both this year. (I am basing this off the 3-6 grade mobile with the grade level at the top, so I hope that is the one you were talking about).
Thanks for asking and let me know if you have any further questions. :)

Howdy Brooke-
I started out with CCSS alignment on these, but found it to be a problem. Many of these skills are basic in ALL upper grades.
I have had teachers from 3rd to 7th grade buy and enjoy these bundles. I would say if the topic fits your standards, then these will make great review/preassessment resources. I have used them with my sixth graders. Even topics as simple as elapsed time were a challenge for my students. I think the topics in Bundle #1 would be fine for 5th graders.
I hope that helps- if you have more questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Have a great day and stop by again soon. :)

Hi Mr. Hughes,

I purchased your "Class Votes Kit" both last year and this year (I couldn't figure out how to download an updated copy so I just downloaded it again). But, in the 2013-14 download, some of the certificates are missing words or just have black smears on them. Is there any way to get another copy?" Thanks.

Hi-This looks great. 2 questions:
Is this made with regular paper or does it require cardstock?

Thank you!

Howdy Rebecca-
Thanks for your great question!
I have always made mine out of regular paper. It works just great! The time I would give as an estimate would be about 3 hours total. This would include coloring/filling in all the information and assembly. Assembly can be a bit tricky the first time you make them, but I have an awesome tutorial that a friend made for her students (the link is in the product description).
I hope that answered all your questions. Let me know if you have more and have a great day. WAHOO!

Greetings and Thank You for your question.
As far as an editable edition, that won't be an option due to copyright restrictions.
However, I am considering removing the 6th grade logo from the entire line of sets and just having it be Daily Dose Upper Grade or something along that line. If I choose to do that, you will be able to download and updated version later this summer. If I choose not to do that, then I will work with you closer to the beginning of school next fall to see what we can do. :)
I hope that answered your question. I appreciate your support and willingness to contact me. Please let me know if you further questions.

Hi Mr. Hughes! I've bought your wonderful End-of- Year dodecahedron project and have run aground a bit. As I am a teacher in the UK, quite a bit of the vocab and headings are not appropriate for me. I know it's a BIG ask, but would it be possible to send me an editable copy of the file? I would make the changes then destroy it, naturally the only copy I would use would be for my class. It's a wonderful project that I'm sure my class would get a huge kick out of! I appreciate you considering my request!

Howdy Monica-
I do not have Daily Dose for 5th grade- however, I have had many customers use it with 5th graders successfully. It would still meet many of the standards in ELA! As far as aligning to the standards, I am not sure. I have many Order Up! sets that meet 5th grade, and because I was the writing teacher for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders the past two years, most of my ELA materials were created to meet their needs. So yes, but not marked as such.

Sorry that wasn't more helpful. Are you looking for a specific standard or topic? That will help me point you in a better direction.

Hello,
There are multiple errors on the Equivalent Fraction Scoot cards. Would you mind making corrections and sending revised files?
For example: card 2 should be answer C 2/8 not 1/8
card 9 answer a should read 3/5 not
card 11 answer a should read 10/30
card 20, card 21, card 22 and card 29 do not have the correct answers on them
There may be more; this is what the class found today.
We did benefit from finding the errors, but I suspect you want your product to be perfect : )

Hey Sheri-
Thanks for your question. My only reservation about this for 2nd grade is the writing space for two of the six circles is fairly small. You might be able to say choose ONE of the favorites in each set and write it.
Also, cutting the slit out of the first circle could be tricky. The rest of the project shouldn't be a problem at all.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have further questions!

I am planning on buying both LA bundles and implementing tomorrow. I think I might have the students work in pairs in my minimal/basic block and independently in my proficient block. Once it is 100%, the student(s) will be able to move to the next skill. If not, the students can work one-on-one with me. Does that sound realistic?

I would say yes. Once the students understand the format of Order Up! they can take off and figure it out. Because it is self-checking, that will help as well. You will want to think about how to deal with the journal prompt on each set. You could have them write on a loose sheet of paper and turn in all the journal prompts at the end as an accountability feature- OR- have them talk about the prompt with a partner instead of writing. I have tried both, with mixes results. I hope that made sense as well.
Also, feel free to email me at: createdbymrhughes@gmail.com tomorrow or tonight if you have even more questions. I will try to respond ASAP! You could even use the FREE Spelling patterns set to show them how it works!

Buyer re: Order Up! Parts of Speech
We are in the middle of test season and my sixth-graders are STRUGGLING with all things grammar. I hope these will work for differentiated learning centers. My question: Do you use these strictly as independent stations or do you do them in small group or maybe in a SCOOT. I am a center noob, so any advice would be great! Thanks!

This is a fantastic question. Here are a few of my thoughts:
I have used them in partners, as a whole class activity (each student had their own copy and I walked around and helped those who needed it). If you have several different sets, you could set them up as centers and have small groups work together on one set, and then rotate after a set time to a new one, you can do scoot with the sets- give a few different sets out and have the kids play scoot- tons of ideas. If you need more please don't hesitate to ask. Most kids love Order Up! because it is hands on and requires lots of thinking. :) Did that help? If not let me know and thanks so much for asking.

My goal is to someday make them for 4th, 5th, and 6th. I will tell you that these will cover MOST of the 5th grade CCSS as well. I teach 4th-5th-6th grade writing and they will work fine for most 5th grade students. Thanks for your question and support- you rock! :)

I love the order up time sheets but we noticed on the Order Up! Elapsed Time Set #3- Time to the 1/4 Hour one of the cards has a mistake. It says 3 1/2 hours but it should be 4 1/2 hours. The time on the first clock is 7:15 and the second clock 11:45

Thanks

Okay- this is just strange. This can sometimes happen if you are in a preview version of your PDF program. Have you tried printing a single page to see if it prints clearly?

TpT says this: For some MAC users, your system may default to viewing PDFs with PREVIEW, which may appear blurry.

Let me know if either of those work and we will go from there. No fears :) You shall have a working copy before this is all over. :)

Upper Grades Are Awesome
Upper Grades Are Awesome  (TpT Seller) re: Order Up! Math Bundle #2 (10 Sets)
Hi Mr. Hughes! I love your products and have used a couple of your Order Up activities before, and I'd love to purchase more. Perhaps it is too early in the morning, but I'm calculating that it is actually cheaper to buy each of the products individually. $1.50 x 10 = $10.50. Am I missing something?

Maybe I shouldn't be teaching math! In my defense, it's been a rough week. Thanks - and sorry for making you panic!

Good Morning!
I panicked for a moment there, but 10 x $1.50 is actually $15.00! :) So you do, indeed save $3 by buying the bundle. I am with you about early in the morning. ha ha. I had to re-calculate several times before I realized my decimal error.
Hope that helps clarify, and thank you for your kind words about my Order Up! sets. I love making them. Have a great day-

Sorry for the delay, it has been a week...phew!
I am willing to add you to the board. Please understand that as a member you are expected to follow the rule of 3 non-product pins (this does NOT include freebies) for every product related pin. So, if you pin a freebie or paid item, you need THREE non-product related pins. Also, only ONE paid item per day is allowed.
I will add you tonight. Thanks for asking and have a great day! :)

Hi, I just purchased your poetry unit and am very excited to use it. As I was reading through it, I found some typos that I thought you would like to be aware of.
Pg 1.... 2nd paragraph should read " will extend" not "extending"
Pg 3.... Need ' on "poet's" name and near bottom sentence is missing the word " want" "(you may to)" should be ( you may want to...
Under Grading/Scoring.... Should be " I do not spend a lot of time looking "at" not "of"
Shape poem page...should be "an" eye catching masterpiece, not "a"
Haiku poem page... Need an "s" on syllable....It should be "5 syllables" not syllable

I hope this helps! If I am mistaken on any of these, I apologize. Again, I am looking forward to using this! Thanks, Marybeth

I purchased your poetry unit and am super excited to use it; however, after going through all of the pages, I noticed that some of the words were just black lines. I don't know if the font didn't transfer to pdf correctly or what. I just thought I should let you know.

Thanks.

Greetings-
I just downloaded the file from TpT and everything was fine. I am wondering if you were using a preview version of a PDF reader (they tend to blur and distort). I would suggest trying to download again. If that doesn't work, you may want to update your PDF reader. :)
I hope those suggestions work. If not, let me know, and we can go from there. Also, the TpT Technical help is awesome being able to identify issues like this as well.
Thanks for your support, and please do let me know if you do or don't get it fixed so I ensure you get a working version.
-Thanks,
Mr. Hughes

I was able to use it with my 4th grade writing class and didn't have any problems. So based on that, and thinking of MY 3rd grade son, I think so. You might have to do a bit more modeling for them, and possibly adjust the anthology down a bit- but I definitely think it would be doable!
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Everything is copied on 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper (unless you choose to print two pages to a page- which would make the patterns VERY small to use. :) )

The full page ones turn out amazing! Hope that answered your question. Please let me know if you have more! :)

When I teach this unit- I have the practice and practice, and then I used it as the culminating activity for the unit. However, you could TOTALLY have them create it as they go. It is a matter of preference and time frame.
I hope that made sense. Let me know if you want/need further details. I am here ready to help! :)
