TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I'm beginning my 10th year as a teacher of middle school students, and I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade language arts and social studies. I am currently teaching language arts to gifted students in grades 6, 7, and 8.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a firm believer in collaborative learning, and my classroom is always full of activity.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

National Board Certified Teacher - EA/ELA, 2008; Brunswick County Teacher of the Year, 2008-2009; Common Core Curriculum Mapping "Dream Team", 2012.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

B.A. - Art History,East Carolina University; M.Ed. - Language and Literacy, University of North Carolina at Wilmington; Add-on licensure - Academically or Intellectually Gifted, University of North Carolina at Charlotte; Curriculum, Instruction, and Supervision, University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I come from a family of educators, but teaching is my second career ... in my previous "life", I worked as a museum professional at the North Carolina Maritime Museum. It was at the NCMM that I got to see and help conserve and display some of the artifacts from the shipwreck site that is believed to be Blackbeard's Queen Anne's Revenge ... how cool is that?!
