I've always loved reading the cereal box but this practical packet makes it enjoyable and educational. I think I am going to put this in a summer packet for my 4th graders. If I were to add something, I'd include math but that's just me. I really love this.

This was very cute! I see so many possibilities with this. It is good practice for students to read what is in their foods, and what a great idea to introduce it as soon as they can read a cereal box. I can see including this in my June pages that I am working on right now. Many students will be out of school, but that doesn't mean they need to quit thinking. I see this as an excellent way to keep their brian in shape over the summer months. It's also wonderful for us homeschoolers. I loved this packed very much, and just added my ratings/comments. But I do have a suggestion/request. Would you be willing to add a 2nd option for the sequencing mini-book? I felt like the pictures on left of the writing area dictated what the students needed to write in the corresponding rectangle. While some of my 2nd graders needed the support of the provided pictures, many of my students were able to write their own sequential steps which did not necessarily correspond to the provided pictures. So what I did was before copying the mini-book again for students to write their final revised version: I covered the provided pictures so it copied as a blank box. Then after they wrote their steps, they drew pictures in the box that matched each step. Would you consider adding 2 additional pages: Your current sequential mini-book, but with the the sequential pictures omitted? In other words, providing a slightly different writing option. [My apologies if my request is unclear. I'm rereading it wondering if it's as clear as mud. :) ]

The only book mention is Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester. I do include a reader's theater of this book, so you can easily do the activities using just the reader's theater. I do not suggest or name any other books in this unit, as the activities can be used with ANY polar bear or penguin book you have on hand or check out from the library. I've also included websites that you can use to gather information to show to your students.
I designed this unit with teachers like you in mind...trying to keep you from having to find other resources. I believe you'll find that EVERYTHING you need to teach for 4 weeks is at your fingertips without having to search or purchase anything else.

Sorry Cynthia - didn't work. I downloaded it again and got the exact same files (including the preview of Silvia's). Perhaps, due to the fact that you changed it after I bought it - I don;t have access to the most recently updated one. Let me know if there is anything that can be done - if not - oh well...this was for charity - so I'm not going to worry about it.

The newsletter this morning reminded me of how sorry I am that I did not get my contribution to Teresa to you in time for this awesome project. One of my little kinders gave me a gift of the flu the weekend you were compiling the donations and I just couldn't lift my head to get to the computer. I am so sorry; I do wish I could have helped. I plan to purchase the unit, though, t as a way to help Teresa. Thank you so much for giving Teresa this wonderful gift!

I have your mini hundreds charts to 1000 but have noticed some mistakes in the 201-300 charts. Has that been corrected? If so, is it possible to get the corrected copy. You have the numbers 226, 282, and 292 listed twice. Also, in the 800's. You also have the number 8348 listed after 833. This is such a great resource!

Do you have a pacing guide for the CCSS for math that you use to determine your lessons and core content? I would be grateful to view or purchase a pacing guide to get me started. My teaching partner and I are trying to decide if we should scrap the whole Saxon program and move to something else. I would greatly appreciate any tips or suggestions you may have.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
25 years as an educator
MY TEACHING STYLE
I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. In fact, playing teacher with my dolls and stuffed animals is one of my earliest memories. I guess it's the 16 years of experience in kindergarten that makes me continue to enjoy using centers/stations and collabrative groups. I think students learn the most when they are able to discuss with their classmates and do hands-on activities with a minimum of worksheets. My most favorite moment is when I can literally see the "lightbulb" turn on for students. What a JOY and BLESSING teaching is to me.
