I'm sorry to see you made an error in purchasing this item, but the description clearly said it contained three standards-based Narrative Writing Rubrics for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels. (I checked to make sure it wasn't mislabeled as 2nd grade.)
I believe that Middle School teachers who teach writing to more than one grade level would find the item to be worth the price of $5. Each rubric has its own goal-setting, teacher feedback, and student reflection components as well.

Hi! I recently purchased your grammar map project - verbs but I don't understand the instructions given. I teach ESL students and in order for them to understand the project the instructions have to be in detail- step by step. Thus I would like to receive detailed instructions if possible. Hello!
I do a lot of mind mapping with my students, and the first step would be to show them examples of thinking/mind maps and discuss what it shows us about what the map maker knows/thinks. I searched and found examples online. Then you can get into the requirements of the map you want them to make (the project sheet). As your students get into the project, they will likely have questions about verb specifics, so I would have a few grammar resources on hand (like textbooks or worksheets) for students to review as they create their project. If your class is mostly beginner ELLs, you may want to consider having students work together and sort words you provide for them into categories, and then create a map.

Although I usually teach advanced & proficient ELLs, I find that once students see what I mean, they run with it, and make really great projects.

I have used this text in both 7th & 8th grade and am glad you are considering this book; I love it! I teach urban students, former or current English Language Learners, so they don't really have much background knowledge in the SCI-FI genre, (which you will very likely need to teach). Nevertheless, I found that most of my students enjoy the book and a hand-full of kids always went on to read the rest of the series on their own. The themes in the book, (self-image, independence, betrayal, conservation, etc) interest most adolescents. I know the book really well and would use key chapters/excerpts to teach literary content, skills, or strategies. Although many students chose to independently read the parts that we didn't do in class, I would summarize them so that the all students know enough to be able to follow the story and complete the essays. Hope that helps and good luck!
