I just purchased your Introduction to the Nervous System powerpoint and worksheet. My school district provided me with a super advanced book to teach my average to below 11th graders, so I have been relying heavily on TpT for basically everything this year. My question involves the pdf format that you sold your products in. I'm used to powerpoint and Word. I printed off the PPT worksheet and it has red asterisks after the questions and no real space to write their name after "Name"; this would all be fine if it were a Word document because I could just edit those tiny irritations, but it's a pdf so I can't edit it as far as I know. What am I overlooking? Is there another way to print it without your red asterisks?

The red asterisks are there because this prompts students to place their answer here. The 'name' and 'date' are close together because in a word doc, they will expand. I use this in a word doc format so when they type their answer it appears in red - easy for me to see and grade and easy for them to see that they've answered the question. I also use this assignment on a computer to save paper - something like blackboard with a drop box. You can use this assignment in several different ways: 1. You can print it and have them place their answers next to the asterisks. 2. They can place their answers on a separate sheet of paper. 3. You can edit the pdf to add text fields so you can use it on a computer and they can simply type their answers where the asterisks are. 4. Adobe has a new program that you can purchase (I don't know how much it is) that will convert a pdf to a word doc. 5. It would be totally feasible to simply use this assignment to make you own word doc by typing it yourself. Re-typing it would probably only take you about 20 minutes, and then you can add any additional information you'd like, including lines so that students can handwrite their answers. My school district prompts us to create about 75% of our assignments in a format to be used in a blackboard/drop box format - hence my asterisks to remind students that 'answers go here.' I hope this helps. Let me know if I can help in any other way:).

Buyer re: Drugs & The Nervous System
You may be unaware of this, but the website link for the drugs of abuse is no longer active. I purchased your product specifically for the internet activity. When I paste the website into Google, it says "you are using an old link." Do you happen to have the new link? Thanks.

I'm so sorry! It was working 6 weeks ago when I taught this unit.
If you want to go directly to the "Drugs of Abuse" interactive, here's the link: http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/addiction/abuse/

It's also easy to get to the new page from the old one by clicking on 'new home page'. Here's the new link: http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/ It's a very cool website with lots of interactives. Once you get to the new home page, scroll down a bit and you'll see "Genetics: Addiction and the Brain" on the left. Once you click on this, you'll find "Drugs of Abuse" on the top right. I also use "Mouse Party" as an introduction to how specific drugs affect different pathways of the brain.

I'm going to change this link in the assignment right now. Thanks for alerting me! If you'd like to send me your e-mail address, I'll send you a new copy of the assignment with the corrected link :)

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Teacher of high school Biology, Human Anatomy/Physiology, and Forensics.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I create PPT's, open notes, and drag and drop activities, Most PPT's and open notes assignments come with an accompanying worksheet. I use a Promethean Board projector almost every day in my classroom. I like to use lots of colorful, visually stimulating and relevant pictures to keep the student motivated and interested in learning the content.
