My own children think I have had every job known to mankind. These very experiences (road construction, maid, bakery worker, nanny, lawn girl, secretary, and even working at an accounting firt) were what drove me to earning an education. I have acquired an array of skills while growing up, which helped me develop my real idea of a dream job, which I now have. I have had the pleasure of teaching high school business education to a diverse population of students at an alternative high school where I learned of the vastness of learning styles and teaching styles that must accommodate each learning style. I have worked as a professional development leader our state office or eight years.
I am a very visual teacher. I love to have movement in the classroom (yes, I am PE certified and Business Ed). I would also add the word "tangible." I like hands on activities, real life scenarios, bright, vivid and clean presentation, whether it is on screen, text, etc., mixed with a relaxed, cooperative, light environment...including a pinch of humor.
The awards I have received feel like mile markers on a time line. They let me know I am trying hard and that someone things I am doing a good job. However, I feel most honored when I know I have fostered a singe of electricity in an effort of lighting the "light bulb moment." My true awards are the rewards of helping teachers feel passionate about their jobs and making their burden a bit lighter.
