What version of everyday math are you using? Common core? Do you think it matters?

This assessment packet correlates with Everyday Mathematics (copyright 2007 by Wright Group/McGraw-Hill) for First Grade. It was not specifically created to align with the Common Core, but I think that it covers the First Grade standards pretty well. It is a Word document. So you could modify any part of it.

I'm so glad that other teachers have found these assessments helpful. I am going to try to create the Oral/Slate Assessments for Units 8-10. If/when I do, I will revise the product so you are able to access the new download. I haven't attempted to revise anything yet, but it sounds like it should work for this. Thanks for your positive feedback!

eakent re: Grandparents Day (Sept. 11th) - Creative Writing Activity
Just thought I'd tell you that your grammar is wrong on the cover of this book. It should say "My Grandmother and Me." :)

Thank you for your comment. However, since the title is not a complete sentence, I think it would depend on whether it was the subject or the object of a preposition. If one was thinking ... "My grandmother and I are different in some ways," as I was when creating this book, I believe it is correct. On the other hand, if you were thinking ... "This story is about my grandmother and me." Then the title could be changed to reflect that interpretation. Also, I do realize that the listing should say Grandparents' Day. However, the apostrophe kept displaying with other symbols, so I decided to leave it out. Thanks again for your feedback!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my nineteenth year of teaching First Grade. I have also taught full day Kindergarten.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe strongly in "time on task". I try to develop and utilize activities that require the whole class to be actively engaged in learning (using individual white boards, letter cards, signaling thumbs up/thumbs down, etc). I have been working most recently on creating classroom tools/activities that incorporate visual, auditory, and kinesthetic modalities. I am highly organized and I'm always seeking ways to better manage my classroom.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was selected for inclusion in the 2004, 2005, and 2006 editions of Who's Who Among America's Teachers.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I received a Masters of Education from Saint Francis University.
