I have my body turned so I am perpendicular to the students. I point at the word part with my left hand and move my right hand out and down. It is kind of like the "thank you gesture" in American sign language, except I don't start with my hand at my chin.
But, again, you can do any hand gesture that works for you and your students. Try a few until you find one that works for you. I'm so excited that your students will become word wise!
No. This isn't really an assessment tool. It's a step-by-step program to get children to learn how morphemes and word parts work within words so that they feel confident when tackling multisyllable words such as "disappointment" and "nondenominational."
