Hi Jennifer, The Bugs Galore pack is mostely literacy centers and math centers. They are not specific to a book. The Very Hungry Caterpillar pack on TPT has some activities for the Very Hungry Caterpillar. I am working on a pack about Critters in the Garden featuring Eric Carl Books. In that unit I have some more activities for The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I am working on some math activies I wanted to add and hopefully I will have it up by this weekend.

Hi Susan, It does not have it but it would be easy to add it. Do you keed it before this weekend? I am working on a new unit Garden Critters featuring some books by Eric Carle. I have been working every night because I am using it in my classroom the next two weeks. If ok, I will add it to the unit this weekend. Let me know if that will work for you.

We are trying to switch gears toward the common core math standards this year and I am particularly interested in your teaching of numbers and cardinality. I am curious about your pacing in math. Are you teaching the Geometry standards at the same time as numbers? Or do you cover that later in the year?

Hi Holly- this is my second year doing Common Core. Last year was a lot of trial and error but this year has been much smoother. I do one number a week. We do recognition, writing, decomposing etc... I also do other things like in September when we did number 3 we also did triangles. You will also see that in that same week we did more and less. I do not do a week of shapes, test it and forget about it like the math books we have had in the past. I love the Common Core math and my students have learned a lot. I also love planning my math to go with my themes. I hope this helps!

I play this game both ways. I have played it whole group as a filler if we have a few minutes before going to lunch etc…. Most of the time I play this game with my small groups. It is a fun way to review letters or letter sounds. What I like about it is that there are no winners or losers. We are all trying to see how many letters we can take out of the basket before someone pulls the “wild” card. Example- One set has Gifts with the letters on it and there are 6 Grinch cards. Once the Grinch is pulled out of the basket, all cards go back in and we start again. I hope this answers your question. Let me know if it does not. Thanks, Deeanna

We have been working on decomposing 7 and 8 and would have loved to have some of these act. to use for that. I know the activities for 5 and 10 can be adaped to use with any of the numbers but I guess I was looking for ready made materials. I must say that I am a teeny bit disappointed in my purchase because of this.

Hi - I am so sorry to hear you are disappointed. When making this unit I tried to make sure I covered all aspects of Operations and Algebraic Thinking. I concentrated a great deal on the decomposing because that is what I get asked about the most. Not sure if you went all the way to the end of the unit but there are 8 decomposing activities in this unit. The decomposing activities with the songs can be used for decomposing numbers 1-10. Also the four activities at the end of the unit using the ten frames can also be adapted for any number you wish. By offering 8 decomposing activities I was hoping it would be enough variety for whatever number you were teaching. Page 118 offers a master specifically for number 8. Not sure if you have visited my blog but I offer many free activities for decomposing. If you will look back in October, you will find activities with masters for numbers 7 and 8 for free. The ones on my blog will be more theme specific because I try to coordinate my reading and math. This unit is more generic activities that can be used at any time. Once again I am really sorry you are disappointed because I have always tried to offer quality units packed full of activities that I have successfully used in my own classroom for a very reasonable price. I am so sorry that I am just now getting back to you. We have a curriculum map that was put together for us as a suggestion but to be honest with you I do not use it. What I do each year varies depending on my students. I like to teach in themes because I think it helps the students tie thing together. I try to create math activities to go with the theme I am teaching. I begin each year teaching one number a week. I try to teach everything I can about that number including decomposing it. They really start to catch on pretty fast. Once I get to 10 I practice 1-10. I then continue numbers 11-20 etc...I hope this gives you an idea of what I do first semester. Hi Kelly, for some reason clipart for hands indicating numbers is hard to find. The clipart I used is not my normal clipart but I felt it was important enough to include it anyway. It actually prints pretty good. My students used it all last year and it was their favorite center. I have not pulled it out this year but plan to as soon as we finish number ten. If I ever run across better "hand" clipart I will up date it. Thanks Deeanna

Operations and Algebraic Thinking consist of adding and subtracting using a variety of methods and decomposing numbers 1-10. I have games and teaching activites for addition 1-10 and decomposing numbers thru 10. I have songs and chants that go with lessons to teach decomposing numbers and these were done with 5 and 10. They can be adapted to use any number 1-10. There are also center activities that reinforse the standards.

Hi Fran, are you talking about the large fish we decorated. If so I free handed the fish on a large piece of construction paper they decorated it and I stuffed it and stapled. Not sure how to send such a big pattern. If you have any ideas please email me.

Hi Deeana. I just purchased your Hungry Ctaerpillar package and printed it out. I was wondering if I could get (or if you have) blackline masters for the foods in the book. I can't afford to give colored copies to my whole class but they could color them before putting them on their plates if I had black and white copies.

The egg is a small piece of white tissue paper "balled up". Same for the caterpillar We used green and red tissue and "balled" them up to make the caterpillar. The cocoon is made from a small piece of brown construction paper twisted and glued to the picture of the branch. I know it is hard to see in the pictures. If you purchase the mini unit try the caterpillar sequencing activity. My kids LOVE it!!!!

I sent you an email a few days ago in regards to your Math Center Showing Equality, but I am not sure if you got it. I purchased your center on the 29th after seeing it spotlighted on Vickie Plant's blog. I think it is a fabulous unit, but I was wondering if the number cards at the beginning (2=, 3= etc.) could be recreated with a different font. I feel that the font may be confusing to some of my kinder friends (the 9 almost looks as though the loop is closed on the bottom) I truly like the center and hope that I am not offending you with my concern. Hi Amy- I will be glad to add more cards to the packet. I use so many different fonts with my kiddos I guess they are use to seeing the numbers in a variety of fonts. I have a font that I think will be perfect for your students. Thanks for buying the unit and I hope your student enjoy!
