These are binders that go back and forth to home. Students organize their papers in thus way. There is a word wall page (where you can put your own words in it), an abc chart, class list and schedule (editable).
I also have a behavior calendar where students color their day. You can edit this page also so you can add your own criteria.

I think if you modeled the responses it would work well. Although as the progresses we get into numbers up to 20. That might be a little rough. It depends on how much support you are able to provide.

In the photograph sample you included of the monthly calendars, each date is in a small square within the big square. Could that be added onto the calendars included in this packet rather than just having the date in the corner of each large square? That would give my kids a specific spot to color (instead of coloring the whole large square!) and me a specific spot to write comments if necessary. :)

Hi there, When the calendars were reformatted for 2013-2014, those squares were not available. Last year, I wrote the comments then I lightly colored the entire square (red or yellow for :( days). Since, this was only a max of 2 kids a day (sometimes none=happy teacher) it did not take very much time.

So... picture this... as my class is doing their journals I am walking around the room and giving feed back. Some students just fly with it and I just have to get out of the way. Some students need a little more support. I don't let them practice them incorrectly. So if they are on the wrong track, I redirect them until they are on the right track.
When they have it finished, I put a smilie face on their page, and they slide it back into their desk.

Good morning! I am a first grade teacher, formerly PK teacher. I just finished my masters in May (yea!) with a degree in Mind, Brain and Education – a subfield of education. The first program was started at Harvard by Howard Gardner and Kurt Fisher (if you haven’t read any of Kurt Fisher’s work on Skill Theory and you are interested in the cognitive processes involved in learning, you must read his work!)
Cut to the chase. When I moved up from PK to 1st I was shocked by my students’ lack of number sense. I spent an entire year and all last summer trying to figure out what was missing. In Nov I attended a workshop that on number sense. When I heard the presentation I recognized all the “big” names of the research I had been investigating. The workshop was a training session for an iPad app (Native Numbers). It seemed like a valid, robust app, but I am a skeptic and had to know: would this really work.
I am here to tell you that with the first skill set I saw every cognitive model of learning embedded in this app. I also realized that this app is more than a learning tool; it has built in formative and summative assessment as it is adaptive and levels up and down based on student performance and leads to mastery.
Now I am on a “mission” – everything we read tells us our students are lacking number sense. I believe this app is a fabulous tool to remediate those deficits. I have no vested interest in this app except that I am one of those people that has to solve problems and when I think I have found possible answers, I have to share that with others. Our kids are too important not to share---which is why I love reading blogs! I am asking for teachers to simply read the research and then try out the app and give me feedback---or give the feedback yourself to the developers. I am that convinced. I am not a salesman and I feel quite strange in this new role I have taken upon myself…but I have nothing to lose, or gain, except knowing that maybe we can have an enormous impact on our students!

Hi Deedee! I can't tell you how much I love all of your math work stations! (Im actually at school right now prepping them). I do have a quick question though...on page 15 the 20 tally mark card does not have an octopus on it. Is there any way that it can be added? Thanks so much for all you do for us teachers!

Hmm.... If you are a mac user... will you be sure you are using Adobe, not preview. There should not be a problem with this file as it is a direct PDF file.

On this month I figured out how to print the poetry books using both sides of the paper. I was so proud of myself on earth day!
Also I wanted to let you know. I don't have any rhythm. I have tried singing the poems with the children but I have a really hard time. Have you ever considered uploding the poems wi th tunes on you tube?

Yay! Good for you!!! I have thought about uploading the tunes, but I'm not really certain about the technical side of things (plus my voice would make glass shatter). I might try to see what I can do next year in this area.

When I print Page D, Compare Numbers, each number square on the left sides prints colored, for example the number 7 box, is colored yellow inside, the number 3 is blue inside the box, etc. and the right column only has the box outline colored no fill inside only the number inside. Can you fix this problem? I hope it makes sense!

Hmmm... I have sold many if these packages and I have not heard of this problem. Can you try this?
1) make sure you are opening it in adobe, not preview (this is a common error for Mac users)
2) you may need to update your adobe
3) clear your print spooler. You do this by powering down your printer.
