Director of the English department and 6 years teaching 9th-12th grades English in a Tier 1 Special Education school in La Canada, California. My students need differentiated curriculum and a different style of teaching to better accomodate their learning disabilities and social-emotional needs. I hold two Single Subject Credentials from the State of California in Social Studies and English and oversee curriculum development and alignment with the Common Core Standards for the English department.
I like to incorporate the historical significance into the pre-learning activities of any novel or story I teach. I also include writing assignments and analysis into my comprehension and discussion questions. My literature guides are presented in a way that holds student's attention while requiring them to read and comprehend the deeper meaning of the text and connect the themes and author's purpose to their own experiences and prior knowledge. I take the general topics and break it down until their understand WHAT is being said, HOW it is being said, and WHY it is being said.
Yet to be added
I have completed a B.A. in History with two Minors in English and Anthropology at the University of San Diego, then completed my Masters of Secondary Education at the University of Phoenix. I hold clear credentials in English and History from the state of California.
