I am happy to say that I have been an occasional teacher in Ontario for 3 years now, and have had the fantastic pleasure of visiting many different classrooms and learning from many different students and teachers! I have supply taught in everything from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 7 and 8 French Immersion...and I have had fun doing it all!! I love connecting with and getting to know students of all ages. (Psssst...but, what is my dream, you ask? Well, it is to one day be a Kindergarten teacher - I just LOVE everything about Kindergarten!!! Love love love!) :)))
I am a believer in child-centered, play-based learning that allows children to learn and discover through curiosity, imagination and exploration. I want kids to be excited to come to school and eager to learn! My motto in life is "Make it FUN!" and I try to apply that to teaching as well. :)
"I LOVE YOU, BIG ONE!!!" This was recently exclaimed by a little Kindergarten boy as I was leaving his classroom - haha! (I happen to be a little taller than the average Kindy friend...and adult, in fact!) ;)
I completed my Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in French and Italian at Queen's University, and after exploring various career options, I returned to Queen's and earned my Bachelor of Education in the Primary/Junior divisions.
Hmmm...what else can I tell you about myself? I am happily married to my soul mate and best friend who I met and fell in love with during Frosh Week at Queen's. (Completely irrelevant, but always fun to know!) No kids yet, but we do have a spunky golden retriever named Sassie (Sassie Girl, Sassio, Sassie Petunia...) who just turned one! I love languages (I am fluent in English, French, Serbian and Italian, and have completed basic training in American Sign Language). As a first generation Canadian who only started speaking English in Kindergarten (a big thanks to Frosty the Snowman's thumpety-thump-thump for helping me finally achieve victory with the "th" sound!), I wholeheartedly embrace diversity and multiculturalism, and adore traveling and learning about different cultures and ways of life. I spent a summer semester studying in Italy; my last trip abroad was to Thailand and Malaysia. I also REALLY LOVE to draw and colour, and in my spare time, I design my own line of child-friendly, teacher-approved fun and imaginative classroom accents, decorations, posters, calendar pieces, etc. (Just a little something to add a splash of colour to the day!) This, however, would not at all be possible without my AMAZING techno-and-computer-savvy husband who taught me EVERYTHING and figured out - from scratch! - how to make my artistic dreams come true!! He is an angel/genius, always solving problems and teaching me something new!! (You can check him out at Chris Bailey Piano!) My clipart is featured in all of my products, and I do hope to offer it (as well as my website) very soon! Stay tuned! :)
