As of now, I only have the posters for 5/6 (and 7th just added). These posters are fairly detailed but not the same as a curriculum map. I have been working on a grade 5 map but I haven't taught 5th grade in along time so I'm not sure when I will have a product worth money...! If you follow me, you'll know when 5th grade is completed. Hola. I think you need a digital file editor. Examples of those would be Photoshop Elements, MS Digital Image Suite, GIMP - which is a free type of Photoshop program you can download on line. Download.com has some options. I thought Paint might work but it does not. I have not heard of Chrome. The other options you mentioned do not open .png files. I've asked for advice on the forum. I'm afraid, though, that you just don't have a program to open .png files. I haven't had this problem with my other clip art. You could try downloading my free clip art to see if you get the same result. I hope to find a solution but if I do not, I would be glad to give you a refund. I have no idea how to do that but I feel sure it is possible. Thanks, Patti

Thanks.

Can you separate the clip art? On the download it's all in one picture.
October 25, 2012 Report inappropriate comment
Educational Insights Today
The .png files should be separate. I'll redo this right now. Thanks for letting me know. Patti

P.S. I checked and I think the .png file is good to go. Your computer might be using a program to open the file as a .jpg instead. You can right click on the file and choose "open with" then choose the program you have to open .png files. I use MS Digital Image Suite. Some people have Photoshop. I think it would work if you open it in "Paint" as well. If you don't have a program, you can download some free versions of Photoshop. I think one is called Gimp. Let me know if this doesn't work and we can go to Plan B.... Patti

I just noticed that you responded!! So sorry! I'm getting ready to implement your curriculum this month with my Pre/K and K darlings... it looks like it's going to be great! I think listing the "Content" section first makes alot more sense, and makes it alot easier to figure out! Of course, it's always more difficult to follow someone else's lesson plans. :(

One more question. In the "Content" section of October, I found PKR, PKS/H, and K. Are these center themes? What do the letters actually stand for? I'm confused! :) Thanks!

I just purchased your Pre-K/ K Library Curriculum Map packet. I think it is going to be very useful in my library classroom! However, I feel like I'm missing something. On each curriculum map, it tells me what I will need for the month: Ant stickers, felt board and objects, etc. What do I do with these, exactly? I feel like your actual plan is missing. Please keep in mind that I just downloaded this, but can you give me some insight?
Thanks, Erin Wahpekeche

Thanks for the question. At first I couldn't figure out what to do with the ant stickers either...! They are to be given out after the reading of Henry's Awful Mistake by Robert Quackenbush which is listed in the content section. Most of the other materials have to do with the bulletin board ideas or the center activities. The felt board materials are for the book on kindness. All of this is on the August map. I would check the content first then move on to the other areas of the month. When I took over the library at my school, I had many esoteric standards to go by but nothing practical. I hope that my maps speak to the practical side of opening the world of books and other media to children. I hope this helps. If not, I would be glad to find a way for the materials needed to be explained or listed differently. I think my overall plan is a good one. Once you have looked over all of it, I would be glad to provide any additional information you might need. Would it help if I changed the sequence of the columns? With assessment last? Please just let me know. Thanks, Patti

These first and second grade curriuclum maps include common core standards that speak to media specialists. The maps themselves do not specifically include the use of media but do include the skills, content, and essential questions that a media specialist may use to plug in media that is available. I think your best bet would be to check with your administrator to be sure your school’s policies are in line with the content of the homework hints. Once tweaked, I would feel comfortable handing them out on Parent’s Night after discussing them with parents. Pick the points you would like to highlight and discuss those rather than the entire list. Posting them on your grade level web page would also be a good thing. Let me know how it goes! Thanks, Patti

I saw your posting on the Sellers Forum page of Teachers Pay Teachers; so, I thought I would look at your freebie. Since you are new to TPT, here are a few suggestions that might help you to better market your products.

First, make a cover page for EVERY product you create which can then be used as an attractive thumbnail to entice buyers. Move your directions to the second page so immediately your buyer knows how to use your product. Use the footer to put the copyright symbol, your name and date of creation on EVERY page. Items, especially free ones, have been "stolen" from TPT and posted on other sites to be sold. You have to protect all of your creations. Also, number your pages.

I think it is important that we see what others are doing; so, feel free to look at any or all of my freebies listed below. If you care to, a rating or any feedback you might have would be great. I always like feedback from new people.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching since 1979 and have enjoyed every minute of it! I have always been involved with reading and books. I served as my school's librarian for six years. Over the years I have done a little bit of everything. This makes for an interesting perspective. One of my joys was a literary club. We met once a week in the library. From grades one through seven, children communed with the books and wrote wonderful stories. The student mentoring and sharing of ideas was a thrill to watch. I enjoyed providing the opportunity then stepping back so as not to get in the way!

MY TEACHING STYLE

No one Teaching style really fits. I enjoy being flexible and trying new methods as needed. It really depends on the children. I feel the direct teaching of phonics and reading comprehension is important. The same goes for mathematical number sense. I like open-ended activities that promote critical thinking. I try to be the facilitator rather than the center of attention.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I won the 1984 Teacher Enrichment Grant at my school and traveled to Japan and the Philippines the year President Marcos was ousted. I participated in The Temagami Experience, a Canadian retreat focused on community building. I've mentored student teachers from Tulane University and Loyola University of the South. I participated in a teacher mentoring program at Trinity Episcopal School in New Orleans, LA. My current school, CES, took in more than 100 "Katrina Kids" after the storm. This was a blessing all around amid the reality of the hurricane.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

B.S. Degree in Elementary Education (Grades 1 through 8), M.Ed. Degree (Reading Specialist) Loyola University of the South, Certified Godly Play Teacher, Junior Great Books Teacher, Project Read Teacher, Guided Reading Teacher, Productive Thinking Teacher, Librarian, Reading Tutor, Participated in a workshop on How to Deal With Difficult People ( Very useful!)

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

When I was younger, I worked on yearbooks, put on talent shows, monitored cheerleaders, and did many other after school activities. These days I teach 2nd grade reading groups, 1st and 2nd grade Spanish, and 1st and 2nd grade Godly Play. I teach in an Episcopal school. I've also served as a librarian and a homeroom teacher for grades 8, 4, and 2. I am very interested in Louisiana Studies and love to make clip art.
