After spending years in the field of marketing, I have found a new passion as an educator. Specifically focusing on Language Arts, I enjoy creating lessons that prepare students for state testing to help expose the students, prepare the students, and ultimately assist them with becoming more proficient with key communication skills.
I use "backwards mapping" when planning each unit. I begin with selecting the appropriate standards relevant to my unit/lesson. Then, refer to test-released questions on state testing to see how these standards are tested. This creates a framework for which I create lessons to help scaffold and teach to mastery in each class. It is said a person needs 28 repetitions of any given new concept for a student to master, so I use this methodology to create and review concepts throughout the year.
