Can you give me a little more detail as to the nature of the activity? Are they given the data they supposedly attained from the patients and then have to analyze in terms of the immune system? Any more specifics you can provide would help. Thanks!

Yes! Students are given data from the patients. During the unit, we go over the three levels of defense (1: Non-specific barrier defense such as skin, mucus, saliva, etc; 2: Non-specific response
which includes phagocytosis of pathogens, inflammation of tissues, fever, etc.; 3: Specific response such as antibody production and cell mediated immunity to particular pathogen), and I expect students to determine which level of defense will be needed for each of the patient's conditions. In addition, students learn a little about disease conditions, symptoms, and treatments. Finally, we look at patterns - bacteria are treated with antibiotics; viruses are combated with vaccines. It allows students to approach learning through data and analysis rather than just lecture and note-taking. These are high school students, so enough information must be given for them to have a chance at success. Please ask further questions if this did not clarify things for you.

Hey. I'm new to A&P and am intrigued by your units. How much "stuff" would I need to purchase in order to do the units? What I mean is, do I need lots of specimens and the like in order to use your product? I glanced at the preview for the intro unit and saw pickles mentioned, but what about your other units? I am thinking of purchasing the bundle units. I have a VERY limited budget (don't we all...) and it would help me decide whether or not to purchase your product if i could get a little more information. Thanks so much!

Not much needed. These are mainly the real-world scenarios that go with the usual Anatomy systems approach units. I also included the activities I use with a given scenario. You can choose to do them or not to support the learning. My suggestion would be to do what you can this first year and keep adding hands on activities as you can afford them. I always had good luck getting donations from my community. Instead of asking for money, I asked specific groups for specific things (your local retired teachers for a big jar of pickles, for example). It worked MUCH better than asking for a money donation. Sometimes the money came anyway, but I didn't ask for it.
The big packet with all 15 scenarios is the much better deal if you can afford it! I've taught anatomy for 39 years and this is the product of my creative labors! :0)
