These borders have a white background, but yes, when set as the background, they can be placed on the bottom layer and text can be placed on top. You would create text boxes. Here is an example of how I placed the background as the bottom layer and then placed text and images on it.

HI- First, thanks for your purchase. I am sorry that you are having a problem. Unfortunately, this is a technical issue, so I can only offer the suggestion that TpT offers, which is to make sure you are opening your file in adobe 'READER' and not preview. They say if you are still having an issue, then you are still opening it in preview. You can see this suggestion at the top of your 'my purchases' page.
I would send you the file, but because it is not a problem with the file directly, it would still happen until we figure out what's going on on the technical side.
A blogging friend of mine also has some tips related to having trouble opening files on her blog, so please also check her suggestions.
If you scroll down her blog post, she has a specific direction for when black boxes appear on a MAC. :-)

If you go to your "my purchases " page it will tell you what to do if you have blurry pages or if pages are missing. I can assure you that the pages are there, so please take a look at what Tpt says to do. It most often happens with Mac computers and files not being opened in adobe the correct way but it also happens in pcs if you haven't downloaded the latest version of adobe. It will continue to happen until you follow their directions. Please try that and let me know how it works. I just downloaded the file myself and all is good with the file. Thanks, molly

Next year I am going to be teaching ALL the 4th grade language arts for my school. I will have 3 groups of 30 come through my class for a 70 minute class. I want to structure my time so that the students are getting a mini-lesson on a specific skill, then rotating through guided reading, independent reading, writing, working with words, computer work of some kind, and another center. Can you give me some feedback on how to best structure that using this material? I am a big fan of Fountas and Pinell and love their thinking. I'm a little overwhelmed with managing the number of students I will have, but so thankful that reading/writing will be my focus. I don't have to teach math or science! Social Studies will be part of my content and will help focus my non-fiction reading. Thank you!!!

Hi. I have not had that situation before with working with different groups, but I would just plan to follow the guide I just like I wrote. You may want the kids to leave their reader's notebooks in your room on a shelf. My kids never take their notebooks home. I would say with each class, follow the menu plan, and put together few centers related to the other content areas. I have some great mentor sentence sets that you could use for a writing center. I'm not sure I can be a whole lot of help since I don't know the exact set up of the class and what you need to accomplish. Maybe I could help more if I knew more details. Hi - I am going to post here for you since I am replying from my phone, and hope you checked to receive an email to let you know that I replied here........ The only time the instruction page doesn't seem to come up is when people are not opening the file properly using a MAC computer or if their adobe is not updated. Here is how TpT says to solve the problem:

Yes. I am not really sure why it happens, but it typically will only happen to people with a Mac computer and the way the adobe file us opened. Tpt gives directions in what to do in their questions page and also at the top if the "my purchases " page. The file is fine, so hopefully this will fix it for you. It always has :-). Let me know how it goes. I would send the file to you again but it will keep happening until you read how to fix it. It's an easy dilution from what I understand. Thanks for the purchase.

I don't have any specific sentence starters. The biography unit is any famous person that the students can research. This is all for a 3rd grade level. I like the frame boxes like your other posters. Hi. As the description states, it is a game board that can be switched up with different types of questions. Therefore you would design your own directions. For my full games I charge twice what this one cost, so that is why this one is a bit cheaper, as it doesn't have as much, it was just the board. I did try to specify by saying game 'board'. Because you didn't understand that, would you like to send you a different product of comparably price such as the mini book or word search? Just let me know. I hope you can find a use for it. Hi Donna- Honestly, I am not really sure. I haven't ever had anyone tell me they can't open that file, so I don't really know. TpT can help with any technical issues if you want to contact them directly through their tech support/customer service.
Is the file blurry, or you simply can't open it at all, and your computer tells you that you can't open it? If it is blurry, it is because you are using a MAC computer and you aren't opening the file properly.
If the tech support tells you that you did indeed buy a file that you can't open, they may refund your money, but I am not sure. I don't have the ability to do that. If they say they can't help, please let me know and maybe I can offer you something of the same value since you purchased something you can't use.
Please just let me know what you find out.

Hi. I'm very sorry. I have not heard of that happening before. TpT gives done suggestions on downloads if they are blurry but I don't know about the permission thing. I would send them an email. Hi- I am sorry you misunderstood. The title is game 'board' and it comes with cards to write one if you would like.
I do have lots of 'games' that do come with cards that I charge more like $3.25 for. In this instance if you would like for me to email you a free game due to your mistake I will gladly do so. Come back here and post your email. Please do understand though that I am a teacher, so I won't get back to my email until this evening in order to email it.
I am not able to refund money as we sellers do not have access to be able to do that. All digital downloads are considered final sales. But, like I said, I will be glad to let you pick out one of my other games with cards premade that sells for $3.25. Most will be language arts or math, but I am sure you can find something you could use.

So, I went into my account to re-download it and again, it is showing up as a blank page. Unfortunately, I had only printed out one copy, made photocopies for the kids and then wrote all over my original, thinking I could just reprint it. Now I can't. Any suggestions?

yes, the game board games come with answer sheets :-) There are a few dice games that are open ended, so no answer key is included. The answer will depend on what they roll. For these, I recommend someone else in the group use a calculator or if there is a disagreement among the group, they may ask the teacher. For the most part, I use these games as centers and they are totally self-sufficient/run by students with no problem.

I am out and about this Sat. Eve so I will try and get it to you later this evening or tomorrow. If you have a Mac computer you will need to make sure you open in a special way. Teachers pay teachers gives specific instructions for this. This is usually the only time files mess up for people or don't open properly. You may want to try that first if you haven't already. Hi - I am not sure I understand the questions. There are specific directions that come with the game on how to play. They state to orally give the answer to the card. Honestly, I can't remember if I included any extra turn cards in the game or not. It's a free download, so feel free to download it and check it out. Hey there... I just print them on 8.5x11 paper, which is what most people do. I then mount it on colored construction paper. They look great hanging out in the hallway. I guess as long as you kept the measurements in proportion you could blow it up to whatever size you want. I hope that helps. They look great when completed. I hope your kids have fun doing it.

Hi there. Do you have a mac computer? This is the only time there are ever really issues with opening files. If so, here are the directions that TpT gives for opening the file. ..... " If you purchased a PDF and it is blurry or has black lines after you open it, solve it this way: on a MAC or PC, install the latest version of ADOBE READER. Then, open the file with ADOBE READER. That's it. On a MAC, make sure to "Open With" ADOBE READER and NOT Preview. If it's still blurry, that's because you are still opening it with Preview! "
