If I count all your units together, they are only total 22 weeks. What do you do beyond that? Our first grade team really likes these units and wants to know more. We also want to purchase the math journals. I see in previous posts you will be doing assessments for these units. I'm just really worried about the remaining weeks of school.

Hey, I'm so glad y'all are enjoying the units. I have just started "revamping" units 1-4. After teaching the units a complete year, I am making some minor changes to them and adding a few new ideas, charts, songs, and a few more activities. I don't know if you purchased unit 5, but that unit was a little different than the others. It had a plan for each day with had the materials, teach point, mini lesson and student work. I am going back to all the units and including that for each day. Yes, I am also working on bundling the assessments. The are all already made, so that should be coming soon. In teaching this unit an entire year, I saw where some things needed more days or where I needed to quickly add something in that wasn't. That will be included in the new uploaded units. You can just re-download when I post. I am adding more days to the units so that should make it more than 22 weeks. We have about 3 weeks between Christmas and the end of the year that we don't really do full on math lessons, due to programs, festivals, and that sort of thing. Talk with your principal and see if she might be interested in professional development. I do math consulting and do professional development on first grade core and go in-depth with the units and how to effectively teach them. My email is lizziepink1@gmail.com

I can't say enough about the deep thinking and gains my students made from the math journals. I hight recommend them. They are a deep thinking tool. We do math buddies 3 days a week and they actually do their math journal with their buddy for morning work and on their own Tuesdays and Thursdays. In my PD we do an in-depth look at how to set up the math journal, look at it's components, and how to use it as a deep thinking tool. I hope this helps. :)

We did it today and we're doing the follow up lesson tomorrow. It was so fun they loved it. I adde glitter to the water after the first lesson as magic grow dust.... They loved it!

Do you have more assessments that go with your other units. Also, do you have any units beyond unit 4? The first grade team at our school loves your units and would love to see more to help us get our common core units in place. Nice work!!!

Hey!! I'm so glad y'all are seeing success. I do have one more unit and I'm almost finished. I hope to have it posted by the end of the week. I do have assessments for all of the units and I'm making that a summer project. I'll have all of them posted some time in June. I do consulting in schools on math Common Core, specifically geared toward 1st grade. The PD is an indepth look at the units, the core, and how to assess. If your principal is interested, she can contact me at lizziepink1@gmail.com

Do you just have them do math journal 3 times per week (with buddy), or do you do 5 times per week (2 days without buddies]. If you do them 5 times per week, when do you begin in fall? I'm already planning ahead for fall! I really enjoy using the math journals in my classroom...in addition to your math units.

Hey!1 I'm so excited you're doing the math journals too! Isn't it amazing what they come up with? I don't even introduce the concept of math buddies until after Thanksgiving. They work on their own for a while. Then we do math buddies MWF and on your own TTh. We do math journals all 5 days. I'm working on the last unit (5) I hope to be finished soon. I will be adding a things to all the units over the next month or two, so check for updates. I am adding a lot to unit 1. :) Talk soon, Lizzie

On page 99 did you intend for the first card to read 3+2, instead of 2+3? It doesn't match the number bond page (page 98) as written. I have enjoyed your ideas this year! We are doing near doubles beginning this week and this activity is perfect!

This is such a great resource! I've been trying to come up with a way to organize my sight word instruction while having it be meaningful for the kids, and this is great. I have been trying to incorporate poems, too. I am a little new to Teachers Pay Teachers and am not sure if the order stays the same when doing a search. Could you share the name of the resource or the teacher you downloaded the poems from? Thanks again for sharing this!

The next one focuses on shapes, time, loops back to addition and subtraction and the big wammee...... balancing equations. Happy Teaching, Lizzie

Hey! Thanks for purchasing the journal. A double venn means that students can answer strictly to one side or put their marker in the middle for a both choice. Students were posed the questions about keeping a snowman warmer and favorite fairy tale. They can either answer they think only a hat keeps a snowman warm, only a scarf, both, or neither. The fairy tale one works the same way. They can choose only cinderella, only goldilocks or they can have more than one favorite fairy tale and put it in the middle . (like me) I hope this helps. Happy Thanksgiving

Hey! Sorry it took me so long to reply but I just realized you left a question. :) Yes I am working on unit 3 and hope to have it finished in a few days. Math Talk is getting our kids talking about math in a form of a converstaion. I have the math talk support on lots of the math mats to help generate the conversation. In my classroom we do math talk everyday with math journal and with whatever math mat they are working on. We have support cards to do journal with.... on my math journal we have a # of the day and when we have math meeting I pose the question how can you show the number 12. The kids start the conversation on their own and the one child will agree or disagee and supply reason and evidence to support their answer. Hope this helps:) Lizzie

Hey!! Thank you so much for telling me about the thumbnails pics. I have been having that problem with a few of my items. I uploaded the file again with new thumbnails. I wrote these short vowel decodable books, so my students could have real live like books on their level for their good fit bags. I was finding at the beginning of this year that my kids were struggling to find good fit books from our class library. I didn't want their reading confidence to be compromised so I wrote these and give a new one out each week as we learn the short vowels. There are 5 books for each vowel and then an ack book. Each book has 10 pages but I run mine front and back and staple. It winds up being only 5 pages per book. I can tell you that they love them and read them all the time in readers workshop. Happy Reading, Lizzie

Hey!! I love this because it is so versatile. I actually use mine as a fluency folder for homework. I put it in a folder and give each child one then assign something from it each night and the parent has to sign off that they have heard their child read. This is a sure bet that each child in your class is reading each night. I also use it as an opening for my small groups. It really helps my strategic groups with word recognition and fluency. I have also heard many people put it in their buddy reading center. I hope this helps. I would be happy to email you a copy of my nightly schedule for homework reading. It tells the parents exactly what to read and where to sign. Happy Reading!!! :)
