I am in my 18th year of teaching. I taught for ten years in the Orange County (Florida) Public School system at primarily the sixth grade level. During that time I taught Language Arts, remedial reading, social studies and exceptional student education (aka special education). Then for 6 years I taught sixth grade Math, Language Arts and Social Studies to sixth graders in a private, independent school. Now I am back in public school and am teaching students with Special Needs.
My style embodies all manners of creativity. I use any medium possible to share information and knowledge in new ways. This includeds art, music, role-playing, and anything active. I am also a big fan of the Tribes way of teaching. This method draws students into a community and helps them learn the curriculum in a safe, nurturing enviornment. My colleagues call me the "Kum-by-yah" teacher.
I was named teacher of the year in 2007.
Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from SUNY Geneseo. Bachelor of Art in English from SUNY Geneseo. Master Of Education from Rollins College.
Teaching is not a job, it's what I do.
