Disappointing;can't get the game to work properly; only way to use it is to scroll through the slides and recreate it.

Hi cyndiwms,
I apologize for the difficulties that you encountered with the game. To play the game properly, it needs to be played as a slideshow from the beginning of the PowerPoint. Directions on game operation are included on one of the last slides, slide 62. Once the PowerPoint is played as a slideshow, it should be smooth sailing from there. If you still encounter difficulties please feel free to to post another question here or please e-mail me at admin@enflourish.com I can even provide a refund through PayPal if it becomes too frustrating for you. I hope that helps!

Hi there,

I love the Jeopardy Games and would like to purchase a good number of them. I homeschool my 8th grade son. I am wondering if you would consider doing a Buy 1, Get 1 deal for the games? Thanks for considering. They look like a lot of fun and I would like to use them but not sure I can justify all of them since it's just a one time use for us and for just one person.

Is it possible to complete this profile on the computer and then print it out or can it only be done by hand?

Hi joshuapack. Thank you for your question! Unfortunately, the only feasible way to complete the document on a computer would be by making it available in a non-pdf format. The document in its original, non-pdf form is really quite complicated. It consists of images, shapes, text boxes, clip art etc.. With the array of different objects that came together to build the document, it is not easy to go in and fill in the required information on a computer. Students would need quite a bit of editing background knowledge to do it correctly, and they could easily accidentally rearrange the document’s parts. I’ve actually tried it with my high school students and it was not a pretty sight! Lastly, the pdf-version is a safer version for publishers since it makes it difficult for those bad guys out there to edit and republish as their own. Thanks, again, for your question! If you have any further questions, please feel free to e-mail me at admin@enflourish.com

Hi there. Thank you for your purchase. Using this item as an opening activity is an excellent idea. I think I'll do the same thing! I've added a link to the Microsoft Word version of the same document below. If you'd like, download the document and edit its header to fit your needs. Make sure to copy and past the full link. I hope this helps. I'll remove the link in a few days. Thanks again!

Dear Enflourish,

Thanks for the reply. I was really relieved to hear that you are a classroom teacher. I think my frustration stemmed from the fact that your unit is priced so low, it made me wonder whether a classroom teacher who had put hundreds of hours into a three hundred page unit would sell it for such a low price. It's always frustrating to me when on this website we have to compete against sellers who aren't putting in the time in the classroom. So like I said, I was glad to hear that you are a working teacher. This is one of thoses times where being able to contact a seller privately would be a great feature. Thanks for your frank reply,
Arik

I can't help but notice that a lot of your Hunger Games products are surprisingly similar to Tracee Orman's Hunger Games unit, which I've been using in class for a couple of years now. (The Facebook activity, in particular, seems a little suspicious.) Did you, by any chance, happen to purchase Tracee's unit before creating yours? It just makes me wonder... As a fellow TpT seller, I would just hate to think that anyone in this community is borrowing someone else's ideas and hard work and then selling them at a lower price.

Mr. Durfee, I must admit, that I am quite disappointed and frustrated by this question. My Hunger Games unit took months of work to complete amid my own high school teaching. It is modeled after my other unit plans that have similar designs, layouts, and activities. Please feel free to download a sample of my Twilight or New Moon unit plans and compare. You’ll find that I copied my own formats, activities etc. Similarly, my mock facebook activity also took many hours to complete. I opened my own facebook profile page and I tried to replicate it with a fill-in the words aspect so that I could use in my own classroom. I also created a second page that consists of super simplified, condensed, common language arts activities which mimic the “information” page on individuals’ facebook page. I hoped to create something that my students would recognize and easily understand. I urge you to open up an actual facebook profile page and do a side by side comparison to my mock fakebook page. Better yet, do as I did and open up Ms. Orman’s sample facebook page, my sample fakebook page, and an actual facebook profile page and do a direct comparison to see how it all differs and to see which is most like the actual facebook. I could go into more detail on the major differences between my fakebook page and that of Ms. Orman’s, but I in no way want to nitpick at her successful product. Upon receiving your question I looked up “facebook” on teacherspayteachers and I found pages that actually seem to look just like my fakebook pdf. They could be copying my page or perhaps they too are mimicking facebook itself. Perhaps, I should be the one complaining to them. In any regard, thank you for your input and I hope you many more years of successful teaching of the Hunger Games.

Hi Marnie. I apologize for any inconvenience! I believe the problem here isn't the game itself, but instead the issue is a PowerPoint feature that might have been accidentally used. When played as a slideshow, Microsoft has placed translucent, almost invisible clickable buttons at the bottom left of the screen. These buttons are in the same area as the dollar square. Could it be that these buttons were clicked accidentally during slideshow operation? I spent some time quadruple-checking the PowerPoint and all of its embedded hyperlinks seems to be sound. If the issue continues please let me know through another question here or through e-mail at admin@enflourish.com . If the problem persists, I can even reimburse you for the game. I hope all of this helps!

I work with a lot of individuals with Autism and I have made multiple chapter summary books with visuals for word recognition so they can be reading the same story as their classmates but at their level. I am wondering if it would be ok to use you Hunger Games Chapter Summeries to put with picture support for individuals with Autism and other learning disorders?
Thank you

If it helps, I have included a link below where you can download the Microsoft Word version of the summaries; maybe, the word version will be easier to add pictures to. Hope this helps. Our materials are free for teachers to use in any way they see fit in the classroom. Thank you for inquiring about this, and thank you for caring enough to make this amazing book accessible to all of your students. Hi pjsapienza. Thank you for your question, and I apologize for any inconvenience that the game may have caused. The full directions can be found on slide 62. However, a good way to start operation of the game is by playing the PowerPoint as a slideshow. From there, you can click on the individual buttons to take you to the jeopardy "answers." If you continue having trouble, please let me know. Also, I noticed you purchased a few individual activities from my store that are all bundled in the "Twilight Unit Plan: A Comprehensive Unit Plan for Meyer's Twilight." It seems that you may have purchased the individual activities first and then the Twilight Comprehensive Plan later. If you'd like to provide me with your paypal e-mail address, I'd gladly reimburse you for the individual activities that you purchased. Hope this helps a bit and thank you for your business!

Dear Enflourish,

My name is Jack Dennison. I am the Editor-in-Chief of www.FunnelBrain.com, an educational website. I am writing to you because the quality of the work you have posted to PTP distinguishes you as a talented author (or in your case, publisher). I am looking for teacher-authors to create custom study review materials for FunnelBrain (on a paid basis, of course).

These study materials would take the form of online flashcards, quizzes, and study guides for high school and college level courses, as well as for certain standardized exams such as the GMAT, the SAT or the GRE. We are also interested in lesson plans built around activities that can take place on www.FunnelBrain.com.

If you are interested in a paid writing assignment, please email me at jack@funnelbrain.com, and I will respond with details on the available assignments. In the meantime, please feel free to browse FunnelBrain.com.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Jack Dennison

I am interested in the Fahrenheit 451 lesson plan on grammar, but I was wondering how many pages or different gramatical conventions it covers? It looks great, and I am hoping it does more than just punctuation!

Thank you!

Hi Petrinalamb. Thank you for your question!! Recently, when I taught the novel, I created the packet of reproducibles to be used as grammar warm-ups. I honestly can’t say they go into huge depth on any particular parcel of grammar or punctuation, but the reproducibles are a great review of some grammar/punctuation elements. For “Part One” of the book the plan reviews: complete subjects & complete predicates; sentence classification; and prepositions & prepositional phrases (three handouts total). For “Part Two” of the book, the plan reviews comma usage with two reproducibles. Lastly, for “Part Three” of the book the plan goes over commas and it briefly touches upon semi-colons and colons (two handouts total). Each student handout is accompanied by a separate teacher answer-key handout which brings the packet to fourteen pages total. I hope this answer helps a bit. Thank you, again, for your question and your interest in my lesson plan. Best of luck with the upcoming school year!

Hi Lori. Thank you for your inquiry! Isn't it awesome how Twilight has sparked reading enthusiasm among kids? I've seen it in my own English classes for the past few years too.

I'm working on New Moon plans right now. It takes me many, many hours to create, edit, and revise these plans. With summer school beginning in a few weeks, I'm not sure I'll be able to get past working with New Moon (I'll be short on extra time). Although I can't say exactly when my New Moon plans will be done, I'm thinking I'll be done with them just before May is over.

I was so happy to get a positive, encouraging question from you, that when I finish New Moon plans, I'd be happy to e-mail them to you for free. If you'd be okay with providing an e-mail address, I'll get them to you as soon as they're completed. Thank you again for your question!

Hi Cnace. To play the Jeopardy game, here are a few steps: (1) Play the PowerPoint as a slideshow and start the slideshow at the very beginning. (2) Click on any of the yellow prices below each category column. The prices range from 100 to 500 beneath each column. (3) You will now be on a screen with the question for that price. A countdown timer will begin, giving students a full 60-seconds to respond before time is up. (4) If a student answers the question correctly before time is up, click anywhere on the screen to stop the timer; then, click anywhere on the screen a second time to take you to a slide with the answer for that question. If the timer counts down to 60 seconds before a student answers, then you only have to click once anywhere on the screen to get to the answer slide. (5) Once on the answer slide, click the bottom right icon to get to the home slide that contains the categories and prices to choose from. The bottom right icon is a circular picture of a home. I apologize for any inconvenience and I really hope this helps.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Teaching isn't easy and the expenses that walk hand in hand with teaching do not make things much easier. As a teacher, I know how expensive professional-grade materials can be. In fact, when I first began teaching, I was so desperate for materials that I would easily spend $50+ on materials for any given novel. To help alleviate my own expenses,I eventually began creating my own professional materials for my classes. Later, after sharing my materials with a few colleagues, I figured I could also help other educators by sharing my materials online. In 2010 I created Enflourish as a platform to do this. Through Enflourish it is my hope that my very reasonably priced materials will help foster learning in the classroom, while also easing the workload and expenses that educators face.
