This was a great lesson addition for me to use in the library with my K-1 classes. I love how all the objects disappeared and my students were amazed as well. They would have loved the book without this, but there was a lot more active listening involved with your Smartboard lesson.

I just tried it and it worked for me. You have to have SMART notebook software. It is a SMART lesson.

Used this today with my 2nd graders on the Smart Board. (I just added the 2012 instead of 2011 with a pen.) I think they really learned a lot and actually realized they like some of the things from the '50s and have some things in common. Fun & loved the color and graphics. It kept their attention more than their normal whole group reading activities. I picked a kid's stick with their name on it to read a page at a time & they were very engaged. We also had a good discussion of their clothing, including which characters were on boys' shirts, etc. Thanks for your generosity.

Thanks for the feedback. The kindness links have really changed the way my students interact with each other. They are all trying to help each other, give each other compliments, and are just using kind words whenever possible. TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I started as a reading specialist at Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes. Since I've earned my Masters Degree in Special Education I have taught Kindergarten Self-Contained, inclusion grades 3-8, resource room, and Autism Self-Contained K,1,2. I currently teach a self-contained class of 6 students with autism ranging from ages 5-7. I enjoy creating enriching differentiated activities that are highly motivating, available to all students, and keep a high standard for their academic development.
MY TEACHING STYLE
I teach using a multi-sensory approach with an emphasis on using visual and symbolic cues whenever possible to limit the amount of unnecessary language, when it isn't needed and can inhibit learning.

I am extremely dedicated teacher as many of us are. I teach the lowest functioning students in my school district on Long Island. I am proud to teach my students with Autism in an inclusive setting where they are able to socialize with their typical peers. At the same time they are teaching the rest of the school how to be accepting and compassionate of other's differences.
