Erica --

I am a high school Special Education teacher working with both resource and mainstreamed students. My biggest struggle is finding systems, learning strategies, etc for students with memory issues: long term retrieval, short term memory, processing speed issues, etc. Can you recommend any of your products to help with this, or books that I can use to help develop learning strategies for my students. I also want to find ways to help my higher functioning students incorporate these strategies into their own study habits. Any advice or resources you could recommend would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Tamara: As an educational therapist and learning specialist, I work a lot with this population, and I'm continually creating materials to address these issues. There are three products that come to mind:
1) Here is a new product that I just uploaded called Working Memory, Hemisphere Integration and Attention Building Activities for Optimal Learning. http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Working-Memory-Hemisphere-Integration-and-Attention-Building-Activities-1064929
2) Here is another new product for mine: Visualization for Learning - Visualization is a wonderful tool for enhancing memory: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Visualization-for-Learning-Teaching-Students-to-Visualize-1046511
3) This is an older product: Planning, Time Management and Organization for Success also offers a lot of multisensory strategies for learning. In fact one section focuses on memory strategies. http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Planning-Time-Management-and-Organization-for-Success-109032

I hope this helps, Erica

Good morning, I teacher 5th grade and have a student who has been recently diagnosed with dyslexia. I noticed that she does not reverse her letters near as much as she does her numbers. She also has a processing disorder. Because of this we allow her to use a calculator quite often but now are finding that she types the numbers in wrong because of her dyslexia. Do you have a program that is based more so on number reversal. Thanks

Hi Ashley: I'm dyslexic myself - so I "get it" from a number of angles. :) My Reversing Reversal 2 publication works on symbols, left/right discrimination, East/West and quite a few activities with numbers. If you would like to work on the foundational processing issues consider the Reversing Reversals Primary.

Kathy Kales  (TpT Seller) re: Main Idea and Detail Game - Hey, What's the Big Idea?
Hi, I had a few questions. :) What kind of game is this? Is it a memory/sorting game? Does it require laminating?
November 1, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
n/a
Erica Warren  (TpT Seller)
The game comes with a selection of topic strips that can be printed on card stock or laminated. Once a topic strip has been chosen from one of 3 skill levels, players have 2-3 minutes to list as many details as possible. Each unique detail will earn a point. However, if details are organized under a main idea, they can earn two points for each unique heading. It is a word retrieval and sorting game. Thanks for the question, I've updated to product page for greater clarity. Cheers, Erica

Hi,
I just purchased your Following Directions Primary. On page 8 I am confused to the correct answer for the 2nd problem. I am not next to the hippo and I am not the little bunny or the bigger one. That leaves the bear but he is next to the hippo? I'm confused...can you help me with this?

The answer is the Hippo. I'm not next to the hippo will eliminate the bear. I am not the little bunny or the bigger one, eliminates the two bunnies. On page 47 it offers the answers. These are tricky questions that really exercise linguist skills for us all! But this is what kids are faced with every day. :) I appreciate your feedback, because these are always hard to create and I have to check them over many times. Cheers, Erica

Hello!
I downloaded your free samples of the following directions activities and I love them! Is the hard copy workbook of intermediate activities the same as the two digital copies of the intermediate activities? Also, how many pages/activities are in them? Do the two digital downloads have all of the different kinds of activities in the free sample; who am I?, maze, and following directions to draw?

Sorry so many questions at once. My students have loved the samples and I know they could benefit from more practice.

Great Questions - The intermediate hard copy workbook is the same as the two intermediate digital downloads. I just cut the publication in half to make it more affordable. As for the activities, What am i and Maze Travel are featured in the Intermediate level. The Beginners features Follow the Directions and Draw and What am I. Also, the digital downloads are in color while the workbook is black and white. Finally, if you are interested in any of the holiday Following Directions Activities, then you get one of each of the three activities. If you want to see them all in one place, you can go to: http://goodsensorylearning.com/Following_Directions.html

Hi Erica, thanks for joining our collaborative TpT stores board. We have over 240 collaborators who actively pin their stores’ and with over 5,000 followers we are attracting more traffic to TpT, which is our primary aim. As a collaborator and an active participate, I really value your contributions to the board.
Would you be able to include your store's logo with your pin to your store? I am so sorry to be a pain. It's just that the pin looks like a product rather than a store. Would I be annoying if I also asked that you deleted the pin that has an image of your product too? Sharon S. re: Reading Games: Orton Gillingham - Phonics Fun
I am an Orton-Gillingham tutor. I have a 13 year old boy who is just starting with me. Within the sequence chart that I use he is beginning level 2. He only has short vowels, fls rule and -ck are the only short vowel protectors and closed syllable. Would these games be appropriate as he moves through the sequence. I am trying to find games that are age and skill appropriate to his age.

Yes - I work with older students myself and there are a lot of card games that work nicely with an older population. I think you will be very pleased as the download comes with many game options and other ideas! Cheers, Dr. Erica Warren

Hi,
I just bought your OG reading board games as well as your OG games, when I opened the two files (under two different names) they were the same exact file with the same games. Please advice.

Wow - So sorry for your trouble. I did check and you were absolutely right. That is very strange. Perhaps it has something to do with the new TpT interface. I just went back into my account and reloaded the OG reading games. It's all fixed now. Please confirm that you were able to re-download the proper file. I just did it myself and had no problem.

Apparently, I already downloaded this (because when I tried to order, it said I had already "own it," but heck if I know where it is on my computer. Might I be able to get another download of this? Hopefully, they will have record of my buying this in the past. I am BarbaraJustus@msn.com. Thanks so much!

Vickie Plant  (TpT Seller) re: Following Directions Intermediate 1
Hi there,
My husband was in a car accident last summer and is now living with a traumatic brain injury. He has made amazing progress in the almost year since the wreck and has surpassed all expectations. He is no longer in therapy, but is unable to work due to lots of issues with executive functioning skills. I was wondering if you thought any of your products would be helpful to him, especially the ones that involve following directions. We are still trying to keep his brain active at home, and he is able to do quite a bit, so I don't know if they would be too easy or good practice. Thanks so much!!

Hi Vickie:

So sorry to learn about your husband's accident. I have worked with that population and it is very important to keep him cognitively challenged. I suspect the Following Directions activities would be good. I do have a free sample http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Language-Arts-Following-Directions-the-Fun-and-Easy-Way-Samples
that you can try. I would also consider getting an XBox connect as many of their activities such as Dance Central would also be great for him. Other options are any type of puzzle book. If you can be more specific about his struggles, I can make more recommendations. My regular email is erica@learningtolearn.biz. Don't hesitate to ask. Best wishes, Erica

I purchased the Reading Board Games and can't wait to try them with my students. One question-which cards go with Jungle Beats?

Buyer re: Vowel Combinations Made Easy for Orton Gillingham Programs
Dear Erica,
I purchased your Vowel Combinations Made Easy. I love everything about it...except the /oi/ page with a boy sitting on the toilet. Although I do like the /ay/ picture with a boy praying..both pictures have been found offensive by staff and supervisors... I would appreciate you revising these and making the revisions available so we might benefit from the rest of this powerful teaching tool..Thank you

Erica - Your freebie is outstanding and should be a product you are selling. Think about taking the first part of it and making it your free item, and then state that the item with more activities is for sale, giving the link to your product. Many of us onTPT do this, and it is good way to get teachers interested in your products.

Thanks so much for your kind words. This is a sampling of a few following directions activities I'm selling. Is this not clear in the download? I'll look at it again too. I would love to hear more of your feedback. I need to learn how to get more traffic too.

Thanks a mill, Erica

PS I just made some changes to the doc and added links to the products.

MY TEACHING STYLE

When working with a group, it is extremely important to learn the unique class profile so that multisensory instruction and assignments can be tailored to group and individual needs. Also a rich array of activities choices should be provided so that all students feel empowered and accommodated in the learning environment. No two people share the same strengths and weaknesses. In fact, each individual has his or her own unique ways of learning. While education continually searches for the best group approach to learning, individuals with contrasting needs are often neglected and learning can become an unpleasant experience. When working with Dr. Warren, it's not a matter of fitting into a program; a unique program is created for each student. The individualized approach is a process designed to empower and rekindle a love for learning by helping students to: 1. Define academic goals 2. Utilize exceptional study skills 3. Release the fear of academic failure 4. Understand talents and difficulties 5. Develop compensatory strategies 6. Foster confidence and independence 7. Remediate areas of difficulty 8. Develop areas of ability 9. Acquire self advocacy skills
