Hello,
I am updating my Mardi Gras unit! Love this theme. Your resources look AWESOME. Before I purchase/download, I am inquiring as to if the common core standards are included on any of them, or if you could provide them. I have to include them for a summer school proposal. During the regular school year, I teach math FT so it would definitely be a timesaver and reassure me I am meeting the requirements in the unit, and with the summer school program.
Thanks in advance,
Karen Jansen

JamieLynn79 re: Spanish Thanksgiving Preference Activities
just a quick accuracy note: for these expressions, we say "a mi tambien," not "yo tambien." (porque ME gusta A MI; the "liked" object is the subject of the sentence). Also, the "me gusta" would be "me gustan" with the plural nouns (las frutas, las judias, etc.) Otherwise, very cute ideas, and I'll use them tomorrow as Common Core Standard integration in my 8th grade class. We've already studied the expressions of preference, so this will be a great tie-in.

Hola!
At this point we don't have a podcast uploaded to tpt because that tech isn't offered on tpt. We are very, very loose and almost improvisational about how we use chants. Our chants are always short and very repetitive and they tend to go with traditional English language nursery rhymes and songs or the teacher can just create a quick chant to suite the words and syllables.
I tend to change up chants almost every time I use them. :)

Hi! I just bought your product and I'm excited about using it with my students in Alabma. Nevertheless, I do have one concern. I am from Puerto Rico, which makes me an American citizen by birth, and we do celebrate Thanksgiving, in our own Hispanic way. Therefore, you might want to edit the title and the first sentence, since there is such a thing as a Hispanic Thanksgiving celebration. I must admit, it made me pretty upset to read that, yet I know I don't know it all and make mistakes as well. So I just wanted to run this by you, in case you'd like to edit for future buyers.

Again, I'm excited about your product, and look forward to many more.

Thanks,

Liza

Hola Liza!
I'm (Catherine) and I'm so glad that you bring this up. Coincidentally, I hale from El Paso, Texas where the original Thanksgiving in this hemisphere occurred between Europeans and Native Americans; in that case it was the Spaniard Don Juan de Onate and the Ysleta Indians who still have an active, thriving tribal community.
We decided a few years ago at publication to leave the title in since it referred to the Thanksgiving between the founders of the American Colonies and the Native Americans of Massachussetts. In El Paso we do celebrate the Onate- Ysleta Thanksgiving with an understanding that it was between the founders of New Spain that only became Texas under 200 years ago.
We are sorry to have offended you; cultural awareness is a goal and standard by which we stand.
I can say that as the writer, we'll probably change the title at our next editorial review of publications.

Hi,
I see from the post below that you have already been made aware of the repeated spelling error in the title of your coloring book, but I purchased it a month after Sarah's post and the errors still exist. Also, the word 'él' should have an accent mark even when it is capitalized if the meaning is 'he'. I would love to have an accurate version in time to use this within the next two weeks. I did not anticipate the work being flawed and am disappointed that I may not get a cleaned up version in time.

sarahfulk re: Spanish Nativity Story for Novice Speakers
Hi there!

I purchased this Nativity Story (Spanish) for Novice Speakers last week. However, when I opened the book, there are a few problems I wanted to make you aware of:

1. The title of the children's coloring book is listed as "Le Primera Navidad"...should be "La Primera Navidad" since I purchased the Spanish version.

2. The pages of the coloring book are not evenly split down the middle. Therefore, when the kids cut along the dotted lines, the book does not line up evenly. Some pages are 1/2 page size, others are 1/3 or 1/4 in size. (This really frustrated the kids when I used it in class on Tuesday.)

I have not yet had time to read through the rest of the materials (I plan on doing that over the Thanksgiving holiday). The coloring book is absolutely adorable though! It was perfect for use in my class....minus those two things listed above. :)

If you do make corrections to this document, would you mind sending the corrected version to me? I would greatly appreciate it! It was a bit embarrassing having the children scratch out the "e" in "Le Primera..." and change it to an "a'. It's partly my fault, I should have looked closer at the coloring book prior to printing it out! :)

Gracias por todo!

(Diane answering): I have taught at a number of schools with different program models. There are probably more variations in foreign language teaching than any other area! My elementary classes ranged from once/week to 4-5 times/week. As far as class time, I've had 20 minute pre-k classes up to 50 minute 5th/6th classes. Lots and lots of variation. Regardless, I did always stick to at least 90% in the target language, often more.

Thanks! I do think too that you could use it for reading intervention. Often many don't realize that literacy skills are separate skills- listening, reading, speaking, and writing- that converge with higher literacy. The reading activities are simple, short, and basic enough not to intimidate students, but give them reading tasks.
I thought of my previous ELL students when I created this. Bring on further questions.

As a former middle school teacher, I can say that I had middle schoolers in mind when I wrote this. If you feel that an activity, etc is "young" you can tweak it to give it an "older spin." The Circle Time is really your instructional time so you can call it Group Time. The middle schoolers will love the games! Use some appropriate Latino pop music as the kids arrive.

Excellent question, Roya! We did decide to include several MSM activities for the convenience of having them right there in the download (8 pages). But there are 18 additional pages of brand NEW content, mostly explaining centers, student-led projects, handouts, rubrics, evaluations.

Thank you so much! My email is royapetersen@gmail.com! Do you have any other ER verb games by chance? Like ER dominos maybe? I teach high school and have the students reviewing for the mid-term in centers. I have bought many of your supplies including Middle School Madness. I have already used the tic-tac-toes games and love them. Something along the lines of tic/tac/toe or the dice games.
