I've created these to provide exposure to various types of reading passages 50/50 literature & informational texts. On an overarching scale I have created weekly passages to meet the text complexity requirements of RL.10 and RI.10 Each packet was designed to spiral the standards throughout the year with a greater focus on RL.1, RL.2, RL.3, RL.4 and RI.1, RI.2, RI.3, RI.4, RI.5. Rest assured knowing that each weekly homework packet provides multiple opportunities to practice the CCSS that span across grade levels 3-5. Therefore there's no division between grade levels within the pack similar!

As far as the bundle goes - if there's a sale that item will not be offered at a reduced price since I will have already discounted the unit for buying in bulk. If you choose to buy separately, you may do so and whenever there are sales as long as it's priced higher than $2, the separate packs will always participate in these sales.

Nothing for certain quite yet. However, I'm expecting that the price point will be at least $32 for an entire year of the bundled homework packets as it will provide for 40 complete weeks which are offered for $1/packet individually. This provides at most, a 20% discount for buying the bundle over the individual 5-week sets.

Hi!
I learned this at a summer conference where Anita Archer was the keynote speaker. Basically, it comes down to practicing this summarizing strategy aloud in the same way you teach your class anything. I'd suggest trying something called "Read, Stop, Respond" 1 - demonstrate by reading aloud a paragraph, stop to comprehend the text by answering one of the open-ended summary questions or a question of your creation. 2 - Then, respond by thinking-aloud what your brain does to answer the comprehension question by "stealing words from the question" to phrase your answer & provide key details. Be sure to use your fingers to demonstrate how you are counting the words as you formulate your sentence. Model how you would revise your sentence to sound gramatically correct and meet the word minimum. It may help writing your sentence on the whiteboard and determining a revision after everyone can see it visually. 3 - Practice the strategy with a couple different examples after reading a new paragraph / question in table groups. (use whiteboards to write group's sentence which can help them agree on the 10 word limit) 4 - Next, have the students practice in pairs, and then gradually building up to independent practice when you see fit.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you are supposed to lift stories and articles from published sources in your own work for profit. This violates their copyright and you could be sued. I suggest you look into this. Ask on the seller forum and they can tell you for sure.

I am still in the process of creating these sets, as it is the first year I'm planning & instructing with the Common Core. Set 4 will be a combination of poetry and drama. Sets 5 - 8 will focus on myths, fantasy, fiction and folktales. And finally, set 9 will be functional text (menus, recipes, letters, etc.).
Since it's Labor Day weekend, I hope on finishing & uploading Set 4 within the next day or so. The others will appear periodically throughout the year as I finish creating them.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching since January 2009, hired on mid-year as a floating teacher {K-3 reading interventionist} then I was blessed to have my own classroom starting August 2009. I have taught 4th grade and have loved this age group ever since!
MY TEACHING STYLE
Graduated in 2008 with my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education (multilingual/multicultural) emphasis. As a teacher, I am always embedding ELL strategies within my instruction and love finding and using new methods to keep learning fun and exciting.
