I am in my sixth year teaching, and I have been fortunate enough to teach every year in fifth grade. For the past five years, I've been teaching all of the Reading and Language Arts for my team. It's a big load, but I love it!
- Technology focused - Collaborative in nature - Energetic
My shining teacher moment occurred just this year. The class read-aloud is Savvy, a book by Ingrid Law. In the book, the family members receive a savvy, a supernatural talent or know-how, at the age of 13. I asked my students to write about a savvy, or know-how, of their own. One particular student, "Joe," was adamant that he didn't have a savvy. After a long discussion with Joe, we discovered his true savvy: comedy. At camp a few weeks later, he took an acting class, and blew it out of the water. I asked him, "Joe, do you believe me about your savvy now?" He replied, with a massive grin, "Yeah.... yeah I do!"
I am a graduate of Ohio University, in Athens, Ohio. I graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, with a concentration in middle childhood Language Arts and Social Studies. I recently completed my Master's degree in Elementary Education from Marshall University, in Huntington, West Virginia.
I started doing technology presentations this year, the first one on iPads in the Classroom at the Central Ohio Technology Summit. Then, I had the incredible opportunity to teach Moodle to my elementary staff. I look forward to additional presentation opportunities.
