18 years in English and Journalism classrooms; ten in public high school and eight in private. Triple Georgia certification: English, Teacher Support Specialist, Special Needs (ADD, LD, Asperger's, OCD). My materials are created for college bound students of above-average intelligence ...and learning challenges.
Give the students the power! Magnify their strengths, put them in charge ... with structure, humor and creativity! I create materials that specifically allow for student ideas and revisions. All lessons are broken into sequential steps featuring clarity, appealing challenges, word economy, attractive design, a clear plan, and crafty use of white space. My materials are very flexible, built on best practices, and rely on real world applications, problem-solving, clear organization, and most of all... they are challenging, with a managable plan for success. I do not produce, nor will I ever present busy-work. People ask, "What is the best way to engage AD/HD kids?" After countless successes I respond, "Don't make work easier for them...make it more interesting and more challenging, with room for their ideas and brilliance...and plenty of technology." What works well with the AD/HD population is magic with all learners, including the intellectually and creatively gifted.
