Thank you so much for your feedback! For some reason my principal remembers her, "Being attacked by every man she meets in the novel." She actually said she was disappointed in me for trying to get such an inappropriate book approved. I will try to get her to change her mind. . .I am gathering my ammo.
Thanks again,

Asa

Hi Asa, I should mention that I teach in a private school, so we don't have the public school rules to consider. Of course, I personally am very uncomfortable with inappropriate scenes in the classroom. Why not grab a copy and read it through your principal's eyes? You will LOVE it as pleasure reading too. Gail

Hello.

I am hoping you can help me. What grade do you use The Glass Castle with? I was hoping to incorporate this novel into my 9th grade curriculum, but the principal said no. I have a chance to defend my choice, so any feedback regarding student reaction/ engagement would be very helpful.

Thank you so much for your time.

HI Asa, I teach all LD students, so I chose this high interest book with short chapters and appropriate readability for my senior class, summer reading. The kids loved debating which parent is better... or less awful. As the author moves from chapter to chapter, no carry-over is needed, since each chapter can stand alone. The book has no inappropriate material in it, except perhaps for a moment when one of her uncles attempts to grope her. It is not graphic and is over quickly, as the young girl runs away. All the reasons it would be good for my LD seniors should fit on-level ninth grade. One year, I had my kids go onto the author's website and ask her follow up questions, which she answered. I loved it and so did the kids. Good luck! Let me know if you have more spcific questions. Best, Gail

Gail, Here is how to post an update. Go to your products page and click on "edit". It's the first button on your far left. Now re-download your updated product. Go back to your product page and look on the right where is says "update". Click that and your buyers will be able to access the new, updated material. Hope this helps.

Gail - I tried to download your free item from the box up at the right hand corner of your page, but nothing came up. I had to go into your products to find your freebie. You might want to check this out and correct it so you will get more traffic to your products.

Hello, dear correspondent! thank you for the information. I find that sometimes this website is a little tricky. For example, I have some updates, but I don't know how to post them. Again, thank you so much for the suggestion. Let me know if you need me to send you an attachment by email. Best, Gail

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

18 years in English and Journalism classrooms; ten in public high school and eight in private. Triple Georgia certification: English, Teacher Support Specialist, Special Needs (ADD, LD, Asperger's, OCD). My materials are created for college bound students of above-average intelligence ...and learning challenges.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Give the students the power! Magnify their strengths, put them in charge ... with structure, humor and creativity! I create materials that specifically allow for student ideas and revisions. All lessons are broken into sequential steps featuring clarity, appealing challenges, word economy, attractive design, a clear plan, and crafty use of white space. My materials are very flexible, built on best practices, and rely on real world applications, problem-solving, clear organization, and most of all... they are challenging, with a managable plan for success. I do not produce, nor will I ever present busy-work. People ask, "What is the best way to engage AD/HD kids?" After countless successes I respond, "Don't make work easier for them...make it more interesting and more challenging, with room for their ideas and brilliance...and plenty of technology." What works well with the AD/HD population is magic with all learners, including the intellectually and creatively gifted.
