Elizabeth C. re: Beowulf Activities
Hello! I just downloaded this and it looks fantastic. I will definitely be using it with my class. I was wondering if you would be willing to expand on your idea for modernizing a scene from the book. What directions do you give students to help them with this? Thanks so much!

Thank you so much, glad you like it :) I would have them brainstorm what the characters would be like nowadays. Instead of a king, what type of powerful position or what kind of job would be the equivalent? What about Beowulf? What would he be like in today's times?
How would they talk to each other now, how can they change the dialogue to make it more like the way they talk to each other now? Where would it take place? Would they keep the same setting or change the setting? What kind of setting could work?
You can ask these types of questions to help them come up with answers on their own. Then they can outline how they would like it to look. You can look at another product I have about writing a script for drama.
Hope that helps, let me know if you have more questions and thanks again :)

Hi thanks for downloading this product :) I used it as a way to wrap up the Esperanza Rising unit so after finishing the book and to conclude it since they would need a good understanding of all the characters and events.
However, I'm sure you could make it work at whatever point it feels right for you and your class.
Hope that helps and have a great school year :)

Thanks for your question. That is very strange. The title of the file is the same as product title but with .pdf at the end of it. I have no idea why your computer is saying thats the title. I tried downloading it myself just now and it says the correct title.

I am so sorry to hear you are having problems downloading the document. I will check to see what is going on and if needed try sending you another format. I will try to get back to you by this evening. Thank you.
***update** I don't have your email to contact you directly, but it is a pdf file so should be compatible with any computer. Do you have the latest version of Adobe acrobat to read pdfs?

This is in response to Laha30. First of all, thank you so much for downloading the packet and I am glad you like it =). The Give Me 5 portion is as follows:
1. Eyes on speaker, 2. Quiet, 3. Put things down, 4. Be still, and 5. Listen. I hope that helps and have a great school year =)

Buyer re: Hero packet (as a pre-reading activity for the novel Beowulf)
I downloaded/bought your packet, but am wondering about the answers to the questions (ie: the fill in the blanks for your definition of an epic, etc...) Please send the answers to: blnickerson@comcast.net Thanks so much.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have had teaching experience in Los Angeles County and in Orange County, CA. I also have cooperating teaching experience in Santa Barbara and the American Embassy International School in India. I have taught Grades K, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 as well as having pre-professional student teaching experience with Grades 1 and 4. As many other teachers discover, I rapidly realized that I needed to create supplemental curriculum that would meet the needs of ALL my students -- I have taught in a general education setting with students that have been identified as Gifted, English Language Learners, Autistic, as well as students who are various types of learners (mostly visual and kinesthetic).

MY TEACHING STYLE

In addition to trying to reach the needs of ALL my students, I also try to help my students appreciate each other's diversity and incorporate multicultural education as well. This stems from my experiences of living overseas for most of my life and traveling to over 20 countries.
