Buyer re: Hydropower Renewable Energy Science Kit
I have 45 students. I'm thinking about putting students in groups and allowing each group to work on a different hydro-power activity. Is this possible with one kit?

Depending on the age of your students, I think the smaller the group the better. Groups of twos and threes work great, however if the group is larger than five you will have students watching and not participating. However you know your students best. I had a small AP Environmental Science class and broke my students into groups of 5 and gave each group a kit (either hydro, solar, wind or fuel cell) and had them rotate through and compare results at the end.

How did you find out about Donors Choose? I'm a sciene teacher in Yonkers, NY and I just started at this school in the fall. Many of the teachers here use Donors choose and I started my own account recently. I think it is just fantastic. Also, if you want to swap ratings on products let me know. I notice that you have no ratings so far and I know that building ratings is a great way to start selling. So if you want to work together on that let me know.

Hello, Jennifer.

My name is Misa Maruyama, and I'm a reporter for KOB in Albuquerque. I love the idea of teachers sharing ideas with other teachers across the country. Would you be inclined to interview about why you decided to go digital with your curriculum ... and what kind of response you've received? You can e-mail me at mmaruyama@kob.com or call at 505-967-9957. Thank you!!! I appreciate your time. :)

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught Biology, AP Biology and Environmental Science for two years at a private school in Louisville, Kentucky. I taught Marine Biology at a public school in St.Petersburg, Florida. I have Biology, Chemistry and Earth Science at a public school in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I am currently teaching AP Biology and Principles of the Biomedical Sciences (a Project Lead the Way course)

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe that my teaching style is a mixture between progressivism and social reconstructionism, both of which come under the larger philosophical umbrella of contemporary educational philosophies. My class is a hands-on discovery process where participation is a must. My students utilize various forms of technology to explore basic concepts and to explore various science career paths. I am currently teaching Biology, Chemistry and Earth Science to 9-12 grade students in a high needs urban high school. This year to help address our low proficiency and high drop out rates, I am implementing AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) strategies in my classroom. I am teaching my students to utilize Cornell Notes as well the Interactive Notebook. AVID targets students in the academic middle - B, C, and even D students - who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. With the guidance of caring teachers, the AVID strategies may help these students become the first member of their family to attend college. I also have a class website, where students can access powerpoint slides, assignments, quizzes & tests, and even post comments or questions.
